Stepson has been declared 'untreatable' by the facility, again for the zillionth time caregivers put their hands in the air and say that they can't handle him. He's to be removed from the facility in two weeks. All while the past 3 months they told us he was doing great!

But that's not all, they called the alternative place we had him on the list for without our knowledge and advised against taking him in, which means he's now in worse trouble than before!

We still likely have a place he can go to next, but this is extremely stressful and concerning once again. :(

Very sorry. That is so stressful...

Yeah, we're really running out of options now, and this already took two full years to get arranged
I just don't understand that whole classification, I guess. It sounds like a facility can determine a person untreatable and just send them back home...which would seem to be the worst place for someone who's illness is so severe that a care facility has given up.

I'm trying to equate it to a physical illness, and all I can envision is, "Your loved one was so banged up in that car crash that it's beyond us to help, so if you want to collect them later this afternoon, that'd be great..."

Am I understanding that correctly, or are there "last resort" facilities that can help (with the full knowledge that a place like that...you don't really want your loved one there)?

Yeah, me neither. The problem is that mental health care is heavily privatised here, and caring for patients like my stepson is not as profitable as caring for a person whose problem is resolved easily. The system rewards efficient solutions disproportionally, leaving patients with complex issues like him to fall through the cracks.

He's now to move into an institution for those who are of low intelligence, which he does not belong on his IQ level , but he does belong there at the same time because he does not even understand why he needs to wipe after going to the toilet.

They knew all that about him, yet again send him away for the very issues he needs care for..

I do believe I'll surprise my wife with a little afternoon tea on Saturday:

Our Saturday looks like borderline hot. Storms tomorrow night. C'mon hail -- daddy needs a new roof.

...and just like that, I've got the tea menu set:

Egg mayonnaise sandwiches
Cucumber sandwiches
Classic scones & Jam
Chocolate-Orange Tea Cake
Port Wine Dessert Jellies
Tea, and lots of it

Good thing I'm getting my shot at a grocery store tomorrow - I need a couple of things.

Sounds delightful!

I'm making my first afternoon tea the weekend after Easter for a friend. You've inspired me with all your teas.

That's lovely - but are you allowed to meet friends? Its not allowed here. Maybe you mean you are making it for them to 'take away'?

I can't understand how the authorities would know if you had a couple of friends over for tea, unless a neighbor narcs on you. Our rules never got that strict -- probably because those rules would have been unenforceable.

Here in Portugal there is some control on the streets, in some places you'll find police outside and they can ask where you're going and what you're doing and you need a convincing answer. You can still do a lot of stuff without getting caught though, unless you're hosting a party and the neighbors call the cops no one will knock on your door and ask who are the people with you.
