The Instant Pot (pressure/multicooker) thread.

In the end I didn’t get a replacement for the above faulty machine because it’s not always an immediate fault, it can take months and months before it suddenly happens. So I had a refund and have settled on the Ninja version. It’s more expensive but the copper edition is on special offer so not completely horrendous.

As with a lot of Ninja stuff there are plenty of accessories and spares and having dealt with their customer services in the UK I know they don’t mess you about if something goes wrong.

I also purchased the loaf tin, the casserole/baking tin thingy with a lid and the plastic lid that covers the main cooking pot.
I like that this one comes with an integrated temperature probe.
It gets good reviews, the air fryer function apparently works well and 7.5 litres is a good size so fingers crossed.

The copper colours a bit flashy for my tastes but I’m not fussed enough to pay extra for the stainless steel version 😂

The above turned up a while ago and IRL it’s pleasingly a darker copper colour than the pic shows!

I planned to smoke these -

But yesterday was a stressful day and I woke up with a whopping headache - turns out if you drink enough wine whether it’s free of added sulphites or not you get a headache 😂
So I couldn’t handle the idea of the smoker and bunged them in there to pressure cook.
I was certain this would be a recipe for disaster but didn’t much care, my head hurt and it goes out of date today!
However the Ninja has an integrated thermometer and an automatic cooking cut off when you hit your chosen preset temp.

I set it for 65c (149f) and took my sore head for a sit down.
I heard a whoosh as it released the steam and eventually went to have a look.
The cook over took it to 75-80c depending on where you probed it and amazingly it is tender and moist.
Very happy 👍

I’m thinking some sort of turkey coronation ‘chicken’ sandwich filler 🤷‍♀️

Oooh nice to see an Instant Pot thread - I've had one for around 10 years and I think its probably the best kitchen gadget I've ever bought and it still gets used multiple times a week (I'm pretty sure I reviewed it on here many moons ago).

In these times of high electricity prices I find I'm using the Instant Pot (and the airfryer) much more than I used to - they so efficient. If I had unlimited storage space I'd love to "upgrade" to the 3 litre mini version....that would be the perfect size for the two of us, and small enough to take away in the motorhome too.

Cooking eggs in the IP is the *only* way I cook them in the shell anymore. I've gone by this article to manage my state of doneness. It works as directed. 👍
I haven't done boiled eggs any other way for years now.....they're so much easier to peel and the results are more consistent than boiling them. I've not tried poached eggs though - mine is too old to have the sous vide function, but I guess I could use the keep warm instead as suggested upthread (by the way, that function also works extremely well to keep you Christmas Glühwein warm!).

I found poaching *old fashioned in a pan* to be easier. 👍

10 years experience you say? Well do tell us your favourite things to cook in it!

That's interesting to hear - I don't have a problem poaching eggs the "old fashioned" way in a pan....that's probably why I haven't bothered experimenting :D

Yep they definitely seem to be built to last! I did review mine on here after I'd had it a couple of years, and its still going strong :D
The pressure cook function gets used most regularly for boiled eggs, rice, dried beans and making stock from meat bones. And the slow cooker for ragu, stews, chilli con carne...anything that would benefit from slow cooking. Its funny but I don't very often cook meat in the pressure cooker apart from ribs. One thing I'd love to be able to pressure cook is a ham....but we usually buy the 5kg ones from Costco and they don't fit so I have to boil it the old fashioned way

I’ve never considered pressure cooking ham, I’d be concerned as it’s usually a slightly rolled joint it might bust apart?

Brownies... (for breakfast, don't forget the milk!)

I don’t think so. He uses it for pain relief before he goes to sleep at night, the slow digestion of a brownie on a sleeping stomach would probably mean he’d wake up wasted 😂

Edit: and in need of something to eat, like a brownie 😆

No more risk of it bursting than boiling it on the hob, plus the larger ones usually come in a kind of net that holds them together - a bit like this:
