Travel Plans For 2023

Having stayed at both, I’d have to disagree on the better standard aspect. Premiere is on my “sleeping in a ditch during a storm would be preferable” list.

I think we were actually right across the parking lot from that!

Comfort Inn is my go-to hotel chain. In hundreds of nights in them, I've only had a couple of bad rooms. There is one in Frisco that is REALLY nice. I stayed there when the bees took over my house. As a bonus, there are a half-dozen good restaurants within ten minutes walking distance.

We got home around 4:30 p.m., beating rush hour traffic. Got a lot of stuff unpacked already and going through the mail, etc.
Glad you made it home safe.

I don’t care how long I’ve been traveling, how miserable it’s been, how late it is, or how tired I am, the first thing I do after I get home is dump everything out of whatever suitcases have dirty laundry in them.

We put our dirties in waterproof bags before they go in, sealed up, and I still sit there in the car or on the plane the whole time, thinking, “There’s dirty clothes in there…there’s dirty clothes in there…gotta get ‘em out…there’s dirty clothes in there…suitcase is gonna be stinky…got get ‘em out!…”

This is so far from anything I understand. You would not ever want to come to my house. First thing I do after a trip away is open a bottle of wine and switch on the TV. Most stuff in that travel bag will not be 'dirty' in my book.

Me too! I never put dirty clothes in my suitcase unless they are in plastic bags, LOL! But yeah, that's the first thing my husband did was put the dirty clothes in the washing machine. We had a washer/dryer at our resort so really the only dirty clothes we had were from what we wore while traveling (plus our pajamas). Our drive home involved an overnight stay.

We got home around 4:30 pm and after my husband brought all our stuff in and I turned up the thermostat, turned on my computer, etc. I mixed myself a cocktail, put the TV on, and then started unpacking stuff...I am a big multitasker!

I’d still come to your house…you’re there!

I just think about those dirty clothes, all cooped up in there…it makes me nervous to think the case with sweaty socks in it will be the same case that has my freshly-laundered shirts in it next month. That’s why I pack all the dirties in a plastic bag in one case for the return trip and nothing else (of mine, anyway) goes in there, and that case gets stored opened for a few days, just to be sure.

I spray Lysol in mine after, LOL. And heavens to mergatroid if shoes have to go in a suitcase. That's unavoidable when flying, unfortunately. Hubby is a little less stringent about this kind of thing than I am. We do have separate suitcases for that very reason.

Flying back to Blighty late tomoz (if the ‘over France‘ strikes don‘t get the flight cancelled), it will be about 1am by the time we get to the house.
I will pour a large whisky from whatever grabbed my fancy in duty free, cuddle my dogs and go to bed.
Whatever’s in the case that needs dealing with will still be there in the morning.. unfortunately 😆

I don’t think you two would like motorcycling touring one bit 😆
You have to completely embrace the dirty clothes mixed with clean in your panniers as space is so limited and as you move on every day or two getting your clothes washed and dried is difficult.

Sometimes (brace yourself) wet clean clothes end up wedged in panniers with dirty ones 😮😆

I know I wouldn’t. I grew up riding motorcycles because all my brothers did (as well as most of my extended family), so it was natural. All of my brothers ride to this day.

I got rid of my last motorcycle when I got married (1990). I made the mistake of riding that one on a 13-hour road trip once. Made it very easy to part with.

Years ago (in my late teens and 20s) I was a little more carefree and would sleep on a friend's couch in the same clothes I partied all night in, and I probably would have been fine with motorcycle touring. But I became a massage therapist when I was in my early 30s and that really brought the OCD out in me. Plus I raised 4 kids, which really turned me into a germophobe. I had to have my own loaf of bread that I kept out of their reach so that they couldn't stick their germy little hands into it!

We never had kids (by preference) and one of the 19,839 reasons we didn’t was the cleanliness factor.

Loaf of bread? I’d have had my own three-room efficiency apartment miles away!

I didn't push them out of me, LOL, I got them by proxy (hubby had custody of his 4 children when I met him). So yeah, I ended up not having any and he didn't need any more than he already had! And trust me, the little germ grubbers were 5, 7, 9, and 11 and it wasn't easy for me. Funny thing is, now two of them are moms and they are constantly on their children to wash their hands and they keep bottles of hand sanitizer in their cars, purses, and staged around the house. Wonder where they go that from, LOL.

But you had a dog! They are far worse IMHO.

Back to travel. I've not been anywhere outside Maidstone since the pandemic began. Its beginning to get to me... but the chance of going anywhere soon is impossible. When my leg is mended, maybe I can buy another car and do a day trip. I miss the sea so much...
