Travel Plans For 2024

My DH's older brother lives in West Virginia and he doesn't get to visit with him much.
The other day DH was talking on the phone with his brother and has now decided that we need to go there, since his brother can no longer travel. DH feels that his brother hasn't got much time left on this Earth.
SO ...
I spent the later afternoon today making all of the arrangements.
We'll only be gone for a week, and this time we'll fly rather than drive across the Country again.

Whole of Ireland? How do you get the bikes there? I presume the ferry?
Not the whole of Ireland as it's only 8 days and I'm too old and cranky to want to whizz past things without smelling the roses 😆

We're all meeting at a friends moto place that's set up for motorcycle training and touring over in Snowdonia, then down the coast of Wales to Fishguard and Ferry to Holyhead where we'll head for the west coast and work our way round n down to Killarney National Park.

There are lots of roads that are on a lot of bikers bucket lists so we'll be around those areas 👍 👏

Sounds great. My daughter (single) was looking for somewhere to go on holiday and I suggested Ireland (Dublin). She doesn't drive though and the price of getting there was silly. In the end she opted for the Isle of Wight!

Yer I spent four nights in Dublin for Mr SSOAPs birthday and it was unbelievably expensive. The Isle of Wight would have been more sensible!
Mind you we did go for it and I couldn't tell you what the accumulated cocktail bill was over those few days 😆

Nothing too fancy, but I traveled to Ottawa (capital of Canada) a couple weeks ago for a conference. Very pleasant trip up on the train, and I was there for 4 days and 5 nights.

This conference is one I try to go to every year (I’m on the board of directors for the organization). The very first time the group met was a 2 day meeting of people who all had the same job. It took place less than a week after I got married. I have friends in this organization I’ve known for well over a decade, so I really look forward to going every year.

Of course, after the conference sessions, shenanigans ensue, which usually involves bar hopping. When I say I’m going to the conference every year, my husband says “going to see your drinking buddies?”

Excellent conference program this year, 2 nights out on the town, a hangout with a founding member, times with old friends, and a post-conference spa day at the Scandinavian baths (complete with a drink in hand) - so worth it.

Here’s the Rideau Canal at night.

"Every summer we can rent a cottage
In the Isle of Wight, if it's not too dear
We shall scrimp and save
Grandchildren on your knee
Vera, Chuck and Dave"
I think I went there once - and probably never again:cool:
I love it. I grew up in Portsmouth so it was just a ferry ride. I like islands in general.

I will soon be planning an 8+ week trip for the late fall early winter. I've already started looking into it. I think we will drive to my hometown of Destin, Florida at the end of October and stay for 10 days at a resort on the beach, then drive over to Navarre/Pensacola (Florida) to see some family for a few days, then to New Orleans, Louisiana for a few days to enjoy some music and food. Then continue on to Port Arthur, Texas (bordering Louisiana) to visit my cousins and my last remaining aunt, then further west to Houston to visit my brother's wife (he is working out of town and won't be there), then Austin, Texas to visit my sister and my middle daughter, then Phoenix, AZ to visit DH's cousins and aunt/uncle (who were here for the funeral) for Thanksgiving. Then we will fly to Mexico for a few weeks, go back to Phoenix for a few days, and drive home with a couple of stops on the way (locations TBD). Maybe we will stop in Memphis for a couple of nights? Might make it home for Christmas but not sure!
