Travel Plans For 2024

Sorry to hear it’s been a bit 💩 but it’s great to hear your having a break! 👏 💃 🕺 🎉
Las Vegas is on our hit list so do share! 😊
We haven't been to Vegas in some time, but we use to go alot.
We have a few friends who moved from Hawaii to mostly the outlying areas.
We don't gamble much, maybe $100 between us on one visit (about 3-4 days).
The last we were there was June of 2021, MAN! We gotta GO!

I've never been interested in gambling (apart from once at the Cheltenham Gold Cup) but I understand it's still well worth a visit.
It's kind of a legendary place over here due to all the films that have their hapless characters messing up in Las Vegas 😂

Same here with the gambling. Vegas is worth seeing simply because it’s a spectacle.

MrsT and I used to go frequently when she worked for the airlines, because we had free flights, and there was usually some kind of airline employee deal going on at one of the hotels. I can say I’ve been to Vegas probably a half-dozen times and they’ve gotten exactly $0 from me through gambling. No attraction whatsoever.

Back in the day, Sam Boyd's Hotels had junkets from Hawaii to Las Vegas for CHEAP!
It included:
Air
Ground transportation to and from the hotel and airport
Meal vouchers
and I want to say some tokens to get you started gambling, in their hotels and casinos of course
It was always a bunch of fun!
This was before I was married, so I would go on long weekend trips with girl friends and no one would sleep that whole time, but me

Never been to Vegas, but would love to make it someday.
As for the gambling - hey, they gamble in Vegas, so why not have a little flutter?
We went to Aruba for our honeymoon, and there was a casino in the hotel. Yep - in we went. $100 max, we said. My wife bet $10 on the roulette wheel and got the max, first time!
There used to be Casinos in Venezuela, specifically Margarita. We'd go, every now and then.

MrsT is very lucky that way. She’ll pop whatever spare change she has in a slot machine on the way in/out the door and win a couple hundred bucks.

When we first moved to the UK, we bought a Volvo and got to go to the factory in Sweden to pick it up. The price of the car included my fare and hotel going over and back, but we had to pay for hers.

On the ferry back, she had a handful of krona to get rid of, nothing worth exchanging for pounds/dollars, so she stuck it in one of the slot machines…and won, almost to the penny, the amount of her fare.

It's starting to look like we may be taking a side trip while back home on Oahu Hawaii USA.
One of DH's good friends who lives on the island of Hawaii (aka "The Big Island") is not well and he said that he would like to take an overnight trip to visit him.

We'd fly into Hilo Hawaii USA airport, rent a car and stay one night at a local hotel.
His pal lives about a half hour drive from there.
I must have been a travel agent in my past life ... I looked around at different deals and found that I could put together a better package then what is being offered. (I did work in the hospitality bizz for a number of years when I was young).
The funny thing is that I had just asked DH if he would like to visit one of the outer islands while we were on Oahu ...

The 2024 and 2025 plans are up in the air. MrsT cancelled the 2025 cruise…right after I’d gone through the available excursions and made my choices. She said she didn’t want to endanger my 60th birthday vacation in 2026, which was nice of her.

This year’s Pennsylvania trip is on hold because she’s apparently won a 7-night river cruise while on her work do, so we might be going to Germany for a Christmas market visit or something like that.

So…back to square one, holiday-wise.

So this is news, but me and the boyfriend are getting married :D We can't afford a "proper" wedding (which would cost close to 20k here in Portugal), so we're just signing the papers at the local registry, taking some pics and hanging out with close family and friends for a while, then we'll head for our one-week honeymoon in an all inclusive resort in the Maldives:D We chose Villa Park which is one of the biggest, and will probably be enough to keep us entertained for the week. That trip will be in April 2024.

I still have one last trip to go in 2023, once again I'm going to the Airbus factory in Toulouse, that will be in November.
Wow that is wonderful news!!!! I am so glad you are splurging on the Maldives, always wanted to go. If I wasn't already married I would say yes just to get to go there, LOL!

Congratulations!!!!

Congratulations! Your fiancé is a very fortunate man.

Nothing at all wrong with a registry office marriage; more people here in the US probably wish they had that wedding money back, once it was over with (wedding or marriage, take your pick! ).

Big wave hello from Spain - we flew right over your house and I shouted hello on the way over. 😬
My DH's cousin's youngest daughter got married 6-7 years ago and had to have a nice wedding ($30k) and of course her dad said ok. He offered to give them that money for a downpayment on a house and she said no, she wanted to spend it on the wedding. She was divorced less than a year later.

Yes, if you are flying somewhere, I imagine so...

The highways, or freeways in the US are like that song by The Who.
"I can see for miles and miles and miles and miles and miles..." .
They'll certainly get you from A to B as quickly as possible, but after 2 hours, they become incredibly monotonous.
When you turn off the highways, however, you'll be fascinated. I have to admit, I've only driven in Ohio and Kentucky, but some of the little towns and villages just tick all the boxes, and the people are amazingly friendly.
Definitely NOT like a trip to Cornwall... :hyper: :hyper: :D :D :D

Hey dont pick on Cornwall. That's my roots. Lol but in saying that the streets are the narrowest I've been in.

When my kids were growing up I told them to marry someone who's parents are still together.
D.i.l family are really nice people.

Boston has a lot of one-way streets because of course a lot of downtown was built when there were still horse and carriage traffic. Too narrow for two-way streets.
