What’s the next kitchen item you plan to buy (2025)?

On subject of burgers I went to my fave shop for a burger on way home the other night. Chinese owners sold to another Chinese operator .
Burger has completely changed. No lettuce. Cabbage is cheaper. Egg must have been from a bantam. Pickled onion now gone. Bacon 1 square by 1"
Utterly gutted.
Looking for a new shop now.

They're stepping on dollars to pick up dimes!

My latest kitchen item is a new oven. The last one I had for 20 years died. I went for the cheapest option in the end:

Beko Multi-Function Electric Single Oven - Black BBIMA13300XC | Appliances Direct

I don’t want to tempt fate but my fridge in the garage is a Beko and it’s done sterling work. It must be at least 15 years old now.

The good thing about popular cheap appliances is the parts are usually cheap and readily available and when they stop producing them you’re not left crying at the loss of your much loved range oven.. yes after 20 years that was me with my oven, and yes I nearly cried 😂

Another reluctant purchase (I seem to make quite a few of these reluctant purchases!) this time of crockery.
My lot are clumsy. They break things all the time. So when they finally stopped manufacturing the design I’d had for a good 10 years or more I purchased the cheap Jungle Book delf to tide us over.

Eventually I concluded I need to get something I can easily replace one plate or one bowl of for everyday use, something they’ll hopefully manufacture forever!
I couldn’t do any of that with the Jungle book stuff it’s sets or 12 which means while the plates have dwindled from 16 to only 7 I still have 14 bowls and side plates 😖

Enter the crockery I didn’t think I’d ever buy. It’s heavy, clunky and expensive.

I ordered 6 of each to try out over a year ago and they’re ok. I can live with it but didn’t order anymore.
Then another plate got smashed over Christmas and now there’s not enough for a family of four for a whole day.
These are rarely discounted in the sale to any great degree but right now a set is hugely reduced so I had to.

So yer new crockery is on its way. Not sure how I’ll get on with it. Time will tell.
But I do know if one gets smashed I won’t be upset because I can just buy one more, plus if I want to get shot of it there will be plenty of takers!

Back to the airfrier. I just passed my wifes going into the lounge. I pointed st the fryer and said what's your first meal. She said knowing shes never going to do it. I.might do chicken and chips tomorrow night. I burst out laughing. She knows I'm right. Lol.

I mostly use mine to brown already cooked potatoes, cook sausages, or heat those already cooked chicken options. It does all of those things well, especially the sausage, w/out splattering oil everywhere.

Now that’s one thing I can say to the good…in nearly 37 years together, neither MrsT nor I have ever broken a single plate, dish, or bowl (that I can recall) - drinking glasses, yes, but no plates or anything like that.

Her family has a long association with Corning Glass, so whenever we needed new dishes, she insisted on Corningware/Corelle, and that stuff is damn near indestructible. Now that I think about it, being together that long, we’ve owned exactly four sets of dishes:

1. The Corningware/Corelle we got for our everyday dishes when we married - those were donated when we moved to Minnesota in 1996. Replaced with…

2. The Corningware we bought in Minnesota in 1996 (or 1997, when we bought our first house) - we’re still eating off that and those are the plates you see in most of my food photos.

3. The Noritake stoneware we got as a wedding gift, our “nice” dishes in place of traditional china. We still have all of those, and they make occasional appearances. I’m drinking coffee out of one of the mugs now.

4. Churchill Blue Willow dishes, passed on from my uncle (through my brother) about 5 years ago. We also use those on occasion.

Well I’ve only had three day to day sets in 30 years but that’s only because they continued to manufacture one of them for well over 15 so I could top up when needed.
Our smash counts going to be up there in the top ten of county smashers 😂
The Jungle Book stuff is only 3 or 4 years old!

Corning might be indestructible but I can’t guarantee my lot would smash their way through a few in under a year! 🙄
