What are you baking today (2024)?

I'm baking something with sourdough.
Not sure what yet...
I may make rye bread if my flour is still OK.
It said "exp date of 2015" so its a bit old :)
But well sealed, so I'll smell if not rancid and decide

To be brutally honest, no (sorry). It puts me off instantly. It looks wrong for blueberry muffins which was why I was asking.

But I was raised to avoid all (artifical) colourings and preservatives, not to mention sugar and so on... My brother was a hyperactive kid with Aspergers and additives and colourings just made him worse.
Honesty is never brutal. For most people, including me, it is welcome. We all have our preferences and that is also welcome.

Thank you for sharing. I love reading and educating myself on those conditions. As a teacher I come to work with a variety of mental structures.
This is so interesting. I did read affirmations to food choices influencing Adhd. And I think i had an Asperger kid for the last 5 years in my class, but it was never diagnosed, being no expert I have no saying...
However, another kid is on the spectrum of Adhd, and inspired by my suggestion, his Mom went and diagnosed dyslexia and dysgraphia. Which is half the challenge really, but still, a good step forward.

Food awareness would be really good. I would love it to find a good psychologist to give us and the parents a talk on this topic.

Would you mind sharing what was helping your brother learn? If you do mind, I totally respect that.

Rye bread
"Standard" yeast instead of sourdough.
Somehow I like it better that way

Yes.
There is a bit of a buttery flavour to it that to me doesn't go well with rye
I like sourdough for everything else (even focaccia, pizza, pita etc), so I was very surprised

I find rye has a sour flavour all of its own so maybe it gets masked by sourdough starter.

Please post your recipe. I love seeded rye bread.

Open apple pie
(Also posted at the "what did you cook" thread).
Must have been 40 years since I last baked one.
It's just the quality of the apples I bought was real poor and all I could think of was apple pie or appelmoes (coarse apple sauce).
I remembered dough as 3-2-1 (flour, butter, sugar, by weight) but I had no butter and decided on a yoghurt based dough.
Not too bad, but slightly too long in my gas oven and a tad dark at the bottom. And difficult to get out.
