What did you cook/eat today (February 2020)?

Hubby had been photographing his (private) hospital food for me. These are the vegan options.

One is a Mediterranean vegetable salad, the other I'll have to check up on. Apparently both were very nice if lacking in volume for an evening meal (more a light lunch! )

Wow amazing my vegan friend has shown me the hospital menu here and the only vegan options were peanut butter, bread, and bananas or other fruit. It wasn't a private hospital though.

That looks deliciously comforting.

It was. I was a bit concerned as the recipe is very simple, but it worked.
The only thing slightly wrong was that my dumplings (or doughboys as my mum calls them) were a tad solid. Could have been old self raising flour?

I had similar problems last time I was in hospital (4 month stay). The food was awful. I ended up refusing to eat anything which got the menu changed. Everything was processed this vegan option and that... then I was left with 2 options and for 4 months that want great. I also can't eat bananas or pineapple which did not help matters. That too was a public hospital. So we were very interested to see the food because I'm going to need a double hip replacement in the near future and given I'll under the same surgeon as my husband (we both have severe or moderately severe osteoarthritis just in different leg joints) I was curious to see how bad the food was going to be.

Away at the coast for a few days and have been stuffing myself! First night was at the family run Italian restaurant La Magnolia in Ramsgate which overlooks the harbour.

Starters was a single portion of Affettato Misto: selection of Italian salami and cured meats with cheeses. Shared between two...

Then I had Ravioli Astice: ravioli filled with lobster meat, mussels, baby octopus and squid rings in a white wine and cherry tomato sauce:

My friend had a pasta & seafood dish from the specials board:

The food is good and all the pasta made on the premises - but portions are HUGE! I couldn't finish my main and the starter alone is far more than I would normally eat at one meal. Not that I'm complaining!

Under the weather again, I really seem to catch anything that goes around. Guess that's because I am still recovering. Anyway, I am in that flu phase where you don't taste anything, so cooking isn't happening much.

But I do have a pic of the delicious pecan-raisin-cinnamon cookies I baked two days ago.

Wow that's awful, though I guess it's good that at least they eventually made some effort to feed you. I think it's ridicoulous that vegan food is so hard to get in hospitals, it's some of the healthiest food there is and even as a non vegan I often crave more vegetables and less meat when I am hospitalised.

I remember the first time I had a major lung embolism and was taken to the IC and got hamburgers and mash for dinner.. I didn't even touch it, the smell put me off and eating hot food when you're severely out of breath is absolutely not going to happen. There were no lighter options available, not even a plain salad. My mom brought me the food I craved instead. It was ridicoulous.
