What did you cook/eat today (June 2017)

Pick-up pizza on the way home, with hopes of a fresh quart of beer from the brewery in the next town over. Pizza in car...almost no beer at the brewery. As much as I enjoy a nice malty chocolate stout, I didn't think it would go well with the pizza. Hubby would have been OK with the guest brewery beer named "Be Hoppy", but I'm not a fan of bitter (hoppy) beer. We'll just have to think to pack our Reuben sandwiches* and each pick our favorite in the middle of the week when they HAVE a good selection. Pints for all! (Or, at least, all two of us.)

This brewery and tap room is small, so they don't offer food. On weekends they sometimes have food trucks come in, but you're welcome to Bring Your Own Food anytime.

It's Father's Day here in America today, so I have to decide where I want to go out to eat.

There's supposed to be torrential rains, so it's really a day for mudders, not fadders.

I'm trying to decide between a steakhouse (https://charliebrowns.com/), a Portugese/Spanish restaurant (http://donpepeii.com/), or an old tymey Polynesian restaurant called Lee's Hawaiian Islander. The latter is a 1960s style tiki themed, plastic flower and decorative fish lamps type Chinese/Polynesian joint, replete with angry little old waiters in Hawaiian shirts.

I have my kids coming for dinner. I'll be bringing home steaks from the shop...baked potatoes, salad. Something easy...They love the rib eyes I sell. Frankly, I've grown tired of them as I have eaten my fair share..but what's a Father's Day without treating the kids...

Thanks for the reminder.

To those that like hot foods, you would have loved the jalapeño cheddar smoked sausage. It almost tasted like they accidentally got a hotter pepper.

Too hot go eat much today, so we went to the pub and had a burger from their bbq, and washed it down with a pint of Lilly the Pink cider.

Today: we cooked carrots, Cauliflower and bacon. Then went out and had pizza.

Had lamb for dinner tonight, with a chunk of bread to mop up the gravy, followed by rhubarb crumble and custard. And no, I didn't slave away in a hot kitchen. It was already cooked (except for the custard) and in the freezer. A quick zap and it was ready.

Duck pilaf? I think you will need to start posting some recipes! :D

Yes. I'm recently reconnected with my much older brother, and to my delight he's a bit of a foodie. Coles had frozen ducks at half price a few weeks back and my brother rang me to make sure I knew.

I roasted the ducks after thawing then refrigerating well rubbed with salt & 5 spice, attempting a crispy skin.

We had Chinese style duck pancakes as an entree then the pilaf

Then I made stock from the carcasses and have plenty of meat & skin in ziploocks. There will be duck pho and another round of pancakes sometime soon. I love having a freezer filled with options.

There's also a massive container of duck fat
