My new veg boxes came on Tuesday morning, so dinner was odds and sods soup again - this time onion, garlic, and a carrot all fried until soft, a leek which had seen better days, a few very ripe but soggy cherry tomatoes, wilted spinach leaves, and a mug full of water. Extra flavouring came from crushed dried chillies, fennel seeds, a little freshly grated black pepper and a sprinkling of grated extra mature Cheddar cheese. Two bowlfuls which I ate with a chunk of fresh bread.

As promised for @Yorky a taste of the old country. Faggots, mash and onion gravy.

In the last 15 years the increase in the availability of "western" foodstuffs here has been substantial. Whereas in 2002 we had only a few 7-11's in town, we now have a hundred I guess, and five supermarket chains have moved into the area. So, all in all, there are not many items that I miss. Even faggots are available although I'm not sure who makes them.

This was re-heated (in a saucepan) after being left in the fridge for 48 hours. Doesn't look as good IMO but tasted as good if not better. The roti was fresh.
