Hungarian Goulash - explanations and apologies for falling short of what I expected to achieve are in the link. Still, not bad.

Dinner last night was very simple. Pan seared ground beef patties, oven roasted beets and garden cucumbers. No pics. Dinner was late and we were both too hungry to wait for pics.

I have never heard eggplant referred to as aubergine. Appropriate given the color of the skin.
That is why the colour is called aubergine - after the fruit (it is technically a fruit). Origin: C18: from French, from Catalan alberginia, from Arabic al-bādindjān, ultimately from Sanskrit vatin-ganah,of obscure origin. Aubergine is the word used in UK and France mainly.

Tell me more about this pate please? Especially curious re the jelly top. I usually use melted butter, because pate needs more butter. :D

Still not completely well here. This thing has morphed into a cough. Son the same. Craving something spicy so we've been adding chilli to everything and eating a lot of Asian influenced food. I'll post a picture of the yummiest thing we've had this week in another post from my phone but l have to tell you our meal last night was hysterical. Son turned 14 yesterday & we eat the birthday persons pick.

So.

7/11 for Slurpees
Dominoes for "double bacon cheeseburger pizza"
KFC for individuals choice - I had wicked wings and sesame crunch salad they had the usual suspects
McDonalds for salted caramel McFrappes (no, no I didn't)
Store bought mudcake as the birthday cake.

Thankfully we survived.

My theory is that chilli is an excellent cure for flu. colds and coughs! It has an effect on the hind brain which produces endorphins. So you feel better anyway!

I dread to think wha a 14 year old boy might choose to eat for his birthday!

Tuesday night's dinner was from the freezer - chilli with steamed rice - and yes, it was made with mince, had tinned tomato in it, and green peppers. And it was lovely and hot :D I had a nice fresh sweet apple for afters.

Wednesday night's dinner was a more sedate dry fried eggs with tomatoes and chips :giggle: followed by a mug of hot chocolate.

Salmon with watercress sauce, green beans, red endives and new potatoes. The salmon was cooked on a bed of sliced shallots, and with a liquor of fish stock and white wine, covered tightly, in the oven for 12 mins. The liquor was strained and then reduced by half, cream and watercress added to serve. Recipe courtesy of the late, great Keith Floyd.
