What did you cook or eat today (February 2025)

Well actually...one might think so but flavored crisps are great with dip. I'm partial to Cheddar crisps with sour cream and onion dip. But the cinema isn't an easy place to consume crisps and dip.
True but it’s not them being flavoured that makes them unsuitable it’s the consistency, they are very light, airy and disappear in your mouth so don’t fair well with wet dip.

Mr SSOAP made us egg n chips! I don’t think I’ve ever had just egg n chips before, there’s always been gammon with it.
There's Egg & chips, Egg, ham and chips, sausage and chips, sausage, beans and chips, chicken and chips, and of course...
SPAM and chips.
(Noooo, don't get me started     )

I was in a rush today to get out of the house to pick up my Mother for a doctors' appointment.
I saw this in the deep freeze out in the garage, I buy frozen meals for my Mom, but she could spare one for her daughter, I was hungry.

I don't think that I even consume that much sodium all day!
I'm afraid to take my shoes off, I can feel how swollen my poor tootsies are!

I had about half of that Costco Rotisserie Chicken still in the `fridge and knew that I needed to use it or lose it.
I pulled off as much of the meat as I could and then chucked the carcass, skin and all, into my Crock Pot, along with what little aromatics I had dying a slow and painful death in the veggie drawer of the `fridge, a good bit of water and some Garlic and Black Peppercorns, oh and a coupla Bay Leaves.
When I got back this afternoon from taking my Mother to her doctor's appointment, I got to work...
First, let's drain off the Crock Pot ...

I'll let all of this cool and then bag it and tag it!
I then took the leftover meat and put together some of my "Loaded Chicken Salad"

I made a "Salad in a jar" for my Mom... there is some shredded Romaine Lettuce it the top, I promise.
Then I got to thinkin' ... ya know I saw at Costco these pre-made snack boxes, the ones that have healthy stuff in them, like this
IMG_5102.JPG

I forget the ridiculous price they wanted for something that can very easily be made at home with foods you already have at hand!

If I portion healthy snacks out in clear containers so that my 10 years old little boy aka DH, can see what's available and is an easy grab `n eat snack, he won't eat the stuff he shouldn't be... he found my hidden sugary snacks out in my "C-Store" in the garage cabinets otherwise known as a dry pantry.
DANG IT!
Now I'll need to re-hide them
:wacky:
BUT WAIT!
I still need to make dinner!
🦸🏼‍♀️

... continuing with meals for my 10year old little boy aka DH ...

... not to mention that this is an uber simple meal to make and I'm pretty tired ... Costco's copycat version of Just Bare Chicken Chunks at HALF THE PRICE, some Mac 'n Cheese (the adult version, frozen from Trader Joe's), and some vegetables... Sundae's for dessert later
*Cook's note: When I first meet my husband-to-be, he didn't eat ANY vegetables or fruit
I changed that, right quick!

TastyReuben stupid question: do you make all of your own croutons? They look heavenly... and I'm a sucker for a entrée salad and it's just about that time of year ... what kind of dressing did you make this evening?

My plans just changed as I got given a bucket of fresh water cray fish at 07 this morning.
Quick google, then proceded to boil them.
They are now cooling down.
Gotta clean them just now, then decide what to make with them.
Other stuff as usual. Not too much garden work to do, so I should do admin and some work that I am actually employed to do (very part time)

I baked cinnamon oat cookies from a store bought dough to get a feel for what baking cookies is like with my oven. As you can see the package didn't have the right time for my oven completely, it's a little too dark around the edges. But it did taste good!

Have you done oven temperature testing with a thermometer? I’ve found my ovens vary considerably, one runs hot (by about 10 degrees celsius, one runs cold by about 8). They’re also not consistent in their variation so at lower temps they are both more accurate 🤷‍♀️

Cookies look nice though!
