Second breakfast came with a view.

Pikelets, mango, passionfruit, raspberries and a dairy free sour cream.

Woke up early and decided to get on with making Scotch Quails Eggs ready for hospital picnic tomorrow.
Mr SSOAP loves a good scotch egg (his mum makes really good ones) so I thought for his munch pail I’d do some mini ones.

I know hard cooked isn’t everyone’s preference for a scotch egg but that’s the way I like them, that and you can buy them pre-cooked hard boiled 😉

Only problem is I thought one little packet (12 eggs) wouldn’t be enough so ordered two 😬
Now I’m looking at them in their jackets I think 24 is rather a lot and I’m only halfway through cooking them… eyes.. bigger.. than.. belly 😂

My sister's dog, a shar pei, loves nothing better than a scotch egg as a treat. I can send you the address....

I can’t remember who it was, but one of the more respected British food mavens posited that the soft-cooked Scotch egg was absolutely not “authentic” (there’s that 🤬 word again!) because originally, Scotch eggs were picnic food, meant to be eaten out of hand, so a runny yolk would have been too messy.

I immediately thought back to other articles I’d read on the murky history of the thing, and recalled that the original Scotch eggs were supposedly quails’ eggs, and therefore meant to be poppable whole, right into your cake egg hole, which means a runny yolk would be most welcome, I think.

The mystery lives on. Should there be an afterlife, and should I make it upwards, where all questions are answered, when that Heavenly Librarian asks me what I most want to know…”Let me guess…who killed Kennedy?…what really happened to the ‘Mary Celeste?’…is Bigfoot real?” - I’m going to say, “Nah…just tell me everything about the true history of the Scotch egg!”

If they fitted in whole then a runny yolk would be nice but my lot like their’s with pickle or hot chilli sauce etc so a firm yolk is just the thing 😋

Wonder what the ‘Authentic Brigade’ would make of the ones I do that where the eggs are steamed in a rectangular shape 😮

Speaking of the Authentic Brigade I’ve made a “Chicken Chili” recipe because it was such a mishmash of ingredients in made me balk so I forced myself to make it. I’ll post it below in a mo!

This Chicken Chilli recipe is such an affront in so many ways I had to make it 😂
You’ll read the ingredients list and think this is definitely not a chilli?!

There’s Red Thai paste, Curry Powder, Lemon grass, Coconut milk and peanut butter, she serves it with the usual chilli topping of sour cream!
Where is this going I thought? It doesn’t know if it’s Mexican or Thai or Indian and is that peanut butter taking it in an African stew direction?

chicken thighs
sea salt
black pepper
red curry paste
yellow curry powder
onion
chicken stock
red peppers
yellow pepper
fire roasted tomatoes
lemongrass
chili garlic sauce
coconut milk in the can
black beans drained and rinsed (canned)
peanut butter

Here’s the thing it does taste good 😂
But more surprisingly she one two first prizes in two Chilli contests using a beef version of this recipe!

Looks incredibly good ! I'd lean towards Thai because of the curry paste, yellow curry powder, lemongrass and coconut milk; but it matters not a jot. As long as it tastes good, that's all that matters.
