DD brought over two sandwiches for lunch yesterday from a new to us restaurant. One was pastrami and the other was corned beef. Both on rye. Pickles on the side. We shared half of each sandwich. They were pretty fat sandwiches, so I had half for lunch and half for dinner. Was good, will order from there again.

I had grilled asparagus as a starter (didn’t like any of the menu items), and MrsT had the spiny lobster ball:

Seriously, who eats something with “spiny” in the name? What next? Jagged hamburger knives?!

Not sure I like the look of the lobster but not because its a 'spiny' lobster. It simply because it doesn't look like lobster - which should be delicate red/pink colour. It looks kind of shredded in a breadcrumb coating. How did Mts T like it?

Did you have a main course?

Spiny lobster is warm water lobster. It's the kind we catch here and in the Caribbean, probably other warm waters as well. No claws. The "antennae" and the carapace, and the legs to some extent have sharp spines on them, thus, spiny lobster. There's a reason you wear gloves when you are catching them by hand.

MG, the lobster ball is basically a crab cake, but made with lobster and shaped into a ball instead of a patty.

No tartare TR? I noticed it was all seafood except for that and wondered what you'd order.

Definitely no tartare TR!

Here’s how it went down:

We were seated by the host (who gently took MrsT’s half-finished cocktail from her hand, put it on a little silver tray, and carried it the 30 feet or so to our table for her  ).

Then the waiter came over, very nice as expected, and started his spiel with “Flexibility isn’t our middle name, it’s our first name!” - so I said, “Great, because I’m not interested in any of the starters, can I have the grilled asparagus side as a starter?” - and that was fine, so that’s what I had!

One other nice thing - I’d ordered a glass of gruener veltliner the night before with my pork, and we both really liked it, so she wanted a glass tonight, but he said he didn’t think they had any more left, as they were transitioning over their wines and when it’s gone, it’s gone.

She mentioned having it last night, and he asked where we’d had it, what dining room, and when we told him, he sent a runner down there to see if they had a bottle, and they did, and that was nice of him.

I wanted to point this knife out:

Notice how the profile of the handle is perpendicular to the blade, which usually isn’t the case.

That means, as soon as I pick this knife up, I instinctively align it with the flat side of the handle in my palm…which means it’s the flat side of the blade that’s presented to whatever I’m trying to portion off and get up onto my fork. It’s hilarious and annoying, all at the same time.

However, I liked this charger, so that made up for it, a bit:

TastyReuben are you on a cruise?
Yes!

We started in Barcelona, we docked near Toulon today, and we’re currently en route to Genoa, where we’ll be when we wake up tomorrow.

We’ll make some other stops in Italy, and also Montenegro and in Corfu, finally ending in Rome, where I’ll use my powerful mental brainwave powers to signal a telepathic hello all across Italy for MypinchofItaly.
