What is it?

I looked it up and you do have it there and I'm pretty sure you will know of it by name if nothing else. Its only available here from some supermarkets here at certain times of year, so not exactly an everyday thing. Its fairly easy to grow though. So that is a clue.
It looks like something made out of cellophane plastic. I am surprised it's something that grows out of the ground!

Swiss chard?

Indeed! Also known as rainbow chard.

This is what's available at the biggest grocery store near me:

I typed in rainbow Swissh chard and received a "no results found" message.

Could be the spelling. I tried typing 'rainbow Swiss chard USA' and got quite a few results:

Here is one: Tips for Buying and Cooking Colorful Rainbow Chard
Funny, yeah, I was typing rather fast. But when I typed "rainbow Swiss chard" into the grocery store's website where I order for pickup (the biggest grocer within 30 miles), it showed Swiss chard (green), but no others.

Maybe this summer I will look at farmer's markets. But, I must say I have never seen it on a menu at any local restaurants, and the ones I used to frequent were known for their "farm to table" methodology. But here in the midwest I would not be surprised if it deterred some people from ordering certain menu items unless they were allowed to substitute. I have had Swiss chard before (green) and I liked it, so stands to reason I would like it multi-colored.

Edit: I just looked on Walmart's website. They sell the seeds only. But I won't have enough room for it in my garden because of the herbs and tomatoes we always grow.
