What is it?

All no-s ... to recap:
it's fuzzy on the outside (not hairy )
It's edible, but only the inside of it
I like them with Beer
Hint: I've posted these in the past (not too terribly long ago in fact) in "What did you cook or eat today (February 2022)"
... and GO!
Yeah, everything we guessed didn't sound like something that would taste good with beer.

Well she said it wasn't a fruit or vegetable, but I think edamame is a legume, right (soybean)?

I was thinking maybe it was a component of her sushi roll, but that looks like cucumber and someone already guessed that I think. And cucumber skin is edible and not fuzzy, so not sure what it could be.

Very good ElizabethB you are correct my friend!

We order this each time we go to our favorite Asian Bistro here in Cowboyville Arizona.
This particular photograph is from our neighborhood Sushi joint back in Kaneohe Oahu Hawaii USA.
The Kaneohe place was a BYOB, bring your own beer kinda place, which made it so much cheaper.

We could easily eat loads of different dishes of Sushi and not pay more than $25USD for it.

... and yes JAS_OH1 soy beans are a legume.
This Japanese favorite dish made with young Soy Beans that are either steamed or boiled in salted water, some where there needs to be salt involved though.
If you recall, and I know that you do, the last time DH and I ate at our local Asian Bistro, I made a comment to the server as we paid our bill that the cook had mistakenly put Sugar on the Edamame, rather than salt :o_o: (see Do you ever complain or send food back in a restaurant?)

My husband said that you guys would never get this one, well, he was wrong! 😁 This forum is on it I say!

I love edamame! I can't imagine sugar on it, yes I remember, lol.

We have friends who own a sushi restaurant, and before the pandemic we ate there about once a month. We almost always got edamame, along with our seaweed and octopus salads, as an appetizer. I miss going there, our friends are so much fun to hang out with and their food is soooo good!

I've been too afraid to order that here on "the mainland".
In Hawaii, we eat what's called Tako Poke or Octopus Poke

Very simple dish, just cooked and sliced Octopus mixed with Soy Sauce, Onions and or Green onions, Sea Salt, Red Chili Pepper Flakes (optional) and some Seaweed. Not all Poke is made with a raw Seafood.

Yes, I realize that! I love poke. Just like items on the sushi menu, it's not always made with raw seafood.

So JAS_OH1 is Octopus Salad the same as Tako Poke? I'm really curious, `cuz if it is, I'm all in!
I'd say it's really close, but I detect a slight taste of rice wine vinegar, and also toasted sesame seeds are added. Plus it's baby octopus. But it's delicious!

I had two good friends (married couple) when I lived in Florida who were from Hawaii. There was a lot of good food served at their house! He was the fine art director at the Wyland Gallery.
