In South Central Louisiana it is called Mirliton. Very high-water content. Not a distinct flavor. Great quick pickled. Mother would stuff Mirliton with shrimp, or crawfish or ground meat or fresh sausage. It takes on the flavor of whatever you cook it with.Not a bad guess. From certain angles, the 5 lobes of the fruit do remind me of starfruit, and the overall shape is papaya shaped.
