Nature...fascinating, it is much more ruthless thsn we'd like to think...similar with bears...nothing cuddly about that strong wild animal...

My historian friend Dr Susie's favourite pub is the Beamish Mary, a tiny hop from Beamish Open Museum where she used to work some time ago. The pub is in a village called No Place, in County Durham. She tells me that the reason for the name is uncertain, but is possibly a corruption of something like North Place. One of her long-standing jokes is to tell people who enquire what she's been up to that she has been to No Place.

There's plenty of places with funny names. The village closest to my dad's land in Alentejo is literally called "Round Spaceship". There's another place in Portugal called "Sale of Girls". A lot of cities and villages usually get their names after events that happened there, who knows what happened in these places!
