It helps a lot when dealing with my customers in the South. They trust a man with that accent over a man with a "Yankee" accent. When I am dealing with customers in NYC, or California, I lose the accent. People in NYC hear the Texas Twang, and they deduct 20 IQ points, at least.

People raised in the lower South Island roll their "r"s. So gore sounds like gorrre. I don't know how or why but my sons boys both roll their "r" s it dumbfounds us listening to them. :)
We too use the word twang.

I was on the big island of Hawaii about a year after an eruption of Kīlauea. We walked on the hardened lava flow, and it was crackling as it continued to cool. If you looked down into the bigger cracks, you could still see red hot lava. Stong smell of sulfur wisping through the air.
