Did he mean the barrel of a gun or a whisky barrel?

Edit: Just looked it up. Apparently 'in the barrel' means an unpleasant task in urban slang.
He was much older, so I don't know how deeply into urban slang he was. I always took it to mean more like a wooden barrel, like you put your stuff in the barrel, now it's in the barrel and you know where it is, so you can work on it. You've got it gathered up.

However, the way he used to bark out "You're in the barrel...GO!" - that always made me laugh, because he said it like a definite challenge, like, "You're up, and you better tell me something I want to hear!"

A couple things that made me smile recently, learning to cook Maqluba (Jordanian-Palestinian recipe). It's a rice 🍚 dish you cook in a pot and then flip upsidedown and lift the pot off of. It stays standing as you lift the pot away like a cake. So cool!

Also, got super excited making some significant progress learning Japanese, getting a raise last week at work, and watching BTS content. 😆I never knew I could be so into K-Pop and it's inspiring me to explore dish from other cultures more and more. So exciting seeing more and more things to look into and learn about food! 😁

Another animal related, coming back from my evening walk I meant to pass by a kindergarten in my hood. The paths are nice and big trees are on the sides.
Then a light grey strangely looking bird landed on the kgarten empty playground.

What are you? Was my first thought.
I realized and later google checked, it was a baby owl.💙

I have been hearing the special owl call so it made sense. My bird detection app could not get it for other noises around, but I checked over yt and google.

It seems to be Scops Owl.(otus scops)

For a moment it was magical, like walking into a movie.

I quietly went the oposite way, to avoid any possible Mama Owl or Papa Owl attack.

But it made me smile afterwards. And kid loved the story. I have heard the owl(s) near the lake last night too.

That's a lot better than my story. I was dragging the trash bin back from the end of the driveway yesterday afternoon, looked across my yard and saw a 🤬 skunk, in broad daylight, looked again and saw a second one diving into the brush line!

Back in my teardrop camper days, our group always did a Christmas gathering in mid December at a lake 30 miles from my home. We always picked the same campsites, and there was always a skunk that lived in a hole in the ground near the campsite. He never bothered us. He would walk through the campsite at night, but didn't seem to mind us, at all.

One Sunday moving, we were packing up to leave, and one guy grabbed his collapsable trash bag holder with bag in it that was laying on its side. When he went to stand it up, the skunk scurried out of it. He turned and ran, as one does. But the skunk didn't even try to spray him.

Seems that skunk was just used to people being around.

I have a picture of him walking past the galley of my camper at night, somewhere. If I can find it, I'll post it.

I think I posted a pic over the winter of a skunk eating birdseed off our back patio in the middle of the night.

Skunks are usually nocturnal, which is why seeing two of them at 6PM really shocked me. They're usually not a bother and the only time they spray is if you surprise them and they feel trapped. Apparently, skunks know they can bring the goods when they want to, and it makes them fairly bold, but they're also pretty calm, for the same reason.

I'm not terribly bothered by it, though I'd prefer they go elsewhere.

I worry when I smell one at night. I don't want Teddy to see one, because he will want to play with it. That would be a really bad thing.
