You may need to think about this one for a moment...

In the restaurant at lunch time today was a delightful little girl out with father and grandfather... Now Australians are notorious for abbreviating names and good is no exception but exactly how the abbreviation of 'chippies' arrived from chips (not carpenter which it is normally) is beyond me....but it made is smile because only in Australia could a father abbreviated a word and make it longer!

I’ve noticed that before, where the abbreviation is either the same or longer than the original word and it’s always given me a giggle!

Yeah, like when some grandparents or parents say something to a baby like, "Does the baby waby want her bobby wobby?" I hate that baby talk stuff. But yeah, it's not uncommon.
