Got to get all the happy little trees in! LOLLast night, we watched Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum (or Tatting Channum, I can never keep that straight) in The Lost City, a very lightweight action-adventure-romedy - it was actually quite good fun.
Tonight, we watched Paint, with Owen Wilson, and it’s not fair to say we disliked it, it was just sort of all over the place - it felt like a 25-minute story that someone worked really hard to s t r e t c h it out to 90 minutes.
It’s not that he’s necessarily bad in that one character he plays, it’s just that he’s always that one character. Whether he’s some romantic comedy lead, or a spy, or running a secret organization in the Marvel universe, he’s always this somewhat laidback, hapless, clueless, casually friendly doofus.IMHO, Owen Wilson is one of the most appalling actors ever.
Just my opinion.
What was strange about the movie is the character’s look (and job, of course) is based on Bob Ross, but that’s where the similarity ends, and it’s part of the problem - this character is played as a sort of 1970’s male pastiche out of place in the 2020’s, who sometimes is mildly clueless to his character flaws, but other times revels in them. His character never seems to really come together.Got to get all the happy little trees in! LOL
I liked to watch the real guy on PBS occasionally. No interest in seeing the movie.
It’s getting very good reviews here and is on our list, so we’ll try it out, but bail if we don’t like it.‘The Residence’ really wanted to like it.

We’re getting better about that. We gave up on Sanctuary: A Witch’s Tale in favor of The Mayfair Witches, and we’re liking the latter quite a bit.

Fine, except when he’s driving in a car at 150mph with the damsel he’s rescued, up on two wheels, through an explosion, with baddies shooting at him from all directions, and he calmly says, “I really feel that, you know, just in this moment, that maybe…I don’t know…just maybe, like, there’s some point back there somewhere, like, you know, maybe when I was in college or something, that I just could have made some different choices, I don’t know…” - because that’s how all his characters sound to me.I feel like there should be a bit of space for a character like that.
Some actors are predictable (and warm ) but it’s nice to know what you’re getting sometimes?

Exactly. Poor casting, or limited skills!he’s always this somewhat laidback, hapless, clueless, casually friendly doofus.
Ah yes that’s what it is, I couldn’t pinpoint exactly why I don’t enjoy his acting or find watching his work a draw and that’s it. It’s the same monotone moves every time.Brad Pitt is always kinda the same guy too. They change his looks and his name but his delivery and mannerisms are the same each time. Not particularly interesting.
I'm a big Ed Norton fan.Ah yes that’s what it is, I couldn’t pinpoint exactly why I don’t enjoy his acting or find watching his work a draw and that’s it. It’s the same monotone moves every time.
Edit: although I did love Fight Club.
Legend of the Falls was good. I haven't seen The Lost City.Mr. Pitt was in The Lost City, a small but significant part, and he was quite funny. I think it’s maybe only the second time I’ve seen him in a movie.
