Words!!!

Dumpsy (or Dimpsy on some parts) is a term used in south west England meaning dusk:
It’s a lovely word used to refer to twilight with the sense 'dusky, dim'.

Mr SSOAP’s grandfather used this word a lot “Ooh it’s getting a bit dumpsy”
It was his subtle way of saying you had to get a move on because it was getting dark.
I always loved it because apart from milking you can’t farm much in the dark so “dumpsy” to me always means it’s nearly home time 😊

One that my grandparents used in a similar way is gloaming. It could be a noun or an adjective, and could also just be gloam.

Mush. As in "hey, mush, how're you doin'? "
My dad always answered my phone calls with "hey, mush!" and my youngest son answers me the same.
Apparently, its a Romany word - moosh - meaning "man".

My Dad always calls people mush (or people he likes get called ‘ducky’) but I confess when he says it it sounds quite aggressive and he’s a big man so people are naturally frightened of him anyway, they visibly recoil when he calls them mush!

It means hello in Japan (well mushi mushi). It's one of the few words I remember from living in Okinawa as a child.
Yeah, answering the phone was " mushi mushi"..
So I had quite a laugh when I got a second hand dog here called "Mushi" :hyper:

Lots of funny words here but they are slang or taken in from other languages.
Do they count?
