Your Photos (2025)

Odd that your eucalyptus trees are all twisted. Very pretty! Ours over here are straight. I'll take a photo tomorrow if I remember.
Eucalyptus is a massive group of trees. Pretty much anything you don't recognise as a pine tree is a eucalyptus tree. If in doubt, you call it eucalyptus. There are a massive number of variations.

This fledgling fledged yesterday and nearly flew into me so many times that I got my camera out and actually had to get further away from it to get the lens to focus on me. I know it is a fledgling because it was not about yesterday and its parents are lingering around. It also gets tired periodically and can't quite work out its balance...

There are at least 2 from this brood and we know that there were others from a previous brood as well. Both broods are very accustomed to us and don't worry about us opening a bedroom window whilst they are feeding right alongside the very same window.

Awesome pics!

Our house is on a very steep slope. From one of the property to the other is about 100 mts, 50 mts of which is what's designated as a "green zone". The green zone belongs to the local council, but residents are encouraged to cultivate them, take care of them, etc. to the ends of conserving a green environment.
I looked after mine for a good few years until about 5 years ago, when a huge pine tree crashed down directly on the steps which led up there. Impossible to get through, and the council said they couldn't afford to clear the fallen tree.
To cut a long story short; 5 years of zero maintenance, 18 months away in the UK; the green zone is now a jungle again.
All is not lost, however, because the tree has rotted, and we managed to get up there recently, and start clearing up the mess. We cleared the first level ( there are 4 levels) and things started looking a bit neater. Three days ago, I looked out of the window and saw a large rodent up there. I identified it as an acure or agouti, a relative of the capybara and the guinea pig. He/she was back today, because I put some water out (dry season; no rain for 6 months). I thought; ok, it may be hungry, so I'll chuck a banana up there.
Took some very poor pictures, but the first is the agouti sitting up on the 1st level, and the 2nd, running away with the banana.
They're very shy creatures, so I'll probably have to summon up all my human resources skills to persuade it to come closer.
