We had a little jaunt yesterday. It was a nice and sunny day and a friend has come to stay with us after attending a funeral in Edinburgh. The final leg of our trip home involved a ten-minute rail journey. There are a couple of very old-style trains on our route, big diesels pulling 1970s-era carriages. Our friend, who lives in County Durham, is used to the Newcastle metro trains and she dubbed this one the retro train.

We went to the old market town of Cupar, the historic county town of Fife. It was a pleasant day for strolling around and we even had an ice cream, courtesy of the excellent delicatessen you can see just to the left of the church in the third photo. It's called Luvians Bottle Shop, should anyone find themselves in the area (there's one in St Andrews, too). They stock more than 500 malt whiskies, along with wine, beer and some nice deli items. We picked up some cheese, beer and a bag of very lively chilli almonds, too.

We just got back from a trip to Suffolk in May (29th anniversary), so here are a few pics.

One is the cottage we rented, one is of the village graveyard (we have a thing for graveyards), and one is of the Aga that was in the cottage. First time for that.

^^^ The cottage (and the graveyard) were in Stoke-By-Nayland, and we were there for seven nights, then we spent two nights near Heathrow on the way back home.

Next year, same time (already booked), is a seven-night cruise up the fjords, then ending with four nights in London.

We love England, it really does feel like our spiritual home, and we go as often as we can.
