vegan

Veganism is the practice of abstaining from the use of any product created by or obtained from any living creature.
Veganism is the practice of abstaining from the use of animal products, particularly in diet, and an associated philosophy that rejects the commodity status of animals. A follower of the diet or the philosophy is known as a vegan. Distinctions may be made between several categories of veganism. Dietary vegans refrain from consuming animal products, not only meat but also eggs, dairy products and other animal-derived substances. The term ethical vegan is often applied to those who not only follow a vegan diet but extend the philosophy into other areas of their lives, and oppose the use of animals for any purpose. Another term is environmental veganism, which refers to the avoidance of animal products on the premise that the industrial farming of animals is environmentally damaging and unsustainable. Interest in veganism increased in the 2010s, especially in the latter half. More vegan stores opened and vegan options became increasingly available in supermarkets and restaurants in many countries.

    Fun with kale!

First, a disclaimer: I am not a kale evangelist. I don’t expect to convert anybody here to become a kale lover who hates it right now. And, to be honest, I’ll readily pick almost any other green instead of kale when I want to make something. However, all the people stating how much they hate...

Recipe Rummaniyeh (Palestinian lentil, aubergine and pomegranate stew)

Pomegranates get used quite a lot in Palestinian cooking and this is a vegetarian concoction that is spicy, tasty and pretty healthy as well. There are variations on the theme, so there's scope for adding or omitting whatever you like or don't like. The following, however, represents the general...

    Recipe 'Sort of' Waldorf

Celery is the star of the famous Waldorf salad. This is a take on the classic - a deconstructed Waldorf, if you like! I haven't included precise quantities for the main ingredients. It should be common sense and rather depends on how much you want to place on each plate - a small amount of...

    Recipe Carrot Bacon

If someone ever offers me "vegan bacon", I'll try it, but probably dread the taste. But, this is something that intrigued me immediately. There's no meat here: just carrots and seasoning. Vegetable curries

It has become something of a tradition with me to have a vegetable curry on Christmas Day. Not that I celebrate Christmas, but it's something I started doing in the early 1980s and have continued ever since. I'm open to putting pretty much any vegetable into a curry. Cauliflower and broccoli...
