vegan

Veganism is the practice of abstaining from the use of any product created by or obtained from any living creature.
Veganism is the practice of abstaining from the use of animal products, particularly in diet, and an associated philosophy that rejects the commodity status of animals. A follower of the diet or the philosophy is known as a vegan. Distinctions may be made between several categories of veganism. Dietary vegans refrain from consuming animal products, not only meat but also eggs, dairy products and other animal-derived substances. The term ethical vegan is often applied to those who not only follow a vegan diet but extend the philosophy into other areas of their lives, and oppose the use of animals for any purpose. Another term is environmental veganism, which refers to the avoidance of animal products on the premise that the industrial farming of animals is environmentally damaging and unsustainable. Interest in veganism increased in the 2010s, especially in the latter half. More vegan stores opened and vegan options became increasingly available in supermarkets and restaurants in many countries.

Hi. I have a psychology assignment to do and it must be due next week. I have a client who is an extremely foodphobic picky eater. Recipe Spicy Cauliflower and Tomato with Fennel seeds

This makes a good side dish for an Indian meal. I served it alongside a tofu curry, dhal and rice. The anise flavour of the fennel seeds pairs well with nutty taste of the pan-fried cauliflower. Ingredients (serves 4 a a side) 1 medium cauliflower divided into florets plus a few of the...

    Recipe Moroccan Stew

First, I'd like to address the green elephant in the kitchen: I know that asparagus isn't something that's typically a part of Moroccan cuisine. But, it worked so well with the other flavors in this stew that I kept it. Once you mix all the ingredients in, it's hard to see the carrots, preserved...

    Recipe Cherry and Strawberry Galette

A galette is a very easy way to make a tart or flan and of course you can make them savoury as well as sweet. This recipe is vegan as I've used shortcrust made with margarine and glazed with apricot jam to get the pastry looking golden - but you could use egg wash instead (or both)...

    Recipe Baba Ganoush

We used to have a gas cooker (rings and oven) which made this slightly easier, but now only have electric. There are still ways around the issues for charring the aubergines, you just have to get creative. You can use a blow torch, you can use a barbeque, you can use a camping stove, or you...

    Recipe Homemade Tahini

With experimentation, I have established that if you are after a really smooth tahini, you need to be using white sesame seeds. Unhulled, brown sesame seeds will give you a slightly grainer, more bitter tahini as will black sesame seeds (obviously these will give you a black tahini). So bare...

    Recipe Vegan Milk Pudding

I went looking for a recipe to try for the milk/cream CookingBites ingredient challenge. I thought to myself that someone somewhere must have a milk pudding recipe, straight and simple. And they do. The Canadians have one. So I'm going to make it dairy free (for obvious reasons) and because...

    Recipe Asparagus and Dill Sauce

This is a lovely sauce to serve with fish, eggs or indeed, asparagus. I used it with some deep fried eggs in Kadeifi pastry - of which more, later. Ingredients (serves 2) 12 green asparagus spears (not the really fat ones) 20g butter or other fat 20g plain flour 75ml semi skimmed milk or...

Recipe Chocolate, ginger and chilli, gluten-free, vegan cake

This was based on a recipe I saw in the Tesco magazine and was rather sceptical as I could not see how the ingredients would make a Victoria sponge.
