vegan

Veganism is the practice of abstaining from the use of any product created by or obtained from any living creature.
Veganism is the practice of abstaining from the use of animal products, particularly in diet, and an associated philosophy that rejects the commodity status of animals. A follower of the diet or the philosophy is known as a vegan. Distinctions may be made between several categories of veganism. Dietary vegans refrain from consuming animal products, not only meat but also eggs, dairy products and other animal-derived substances. The term ethical vegan is often applied to those who not only follow a vegan diet but extend the philosophy into other areas of their lives, and oppose the use of animals for any purpose. Another term is environmental veganism, which refers to the avoidance of animal products on the premise that the industrial farming of animals is environmentally damaging and unsustainable. Interest in veganism increased in the 2010s, especially in the latter half. More vegan stores opened and vegan options became increasingly available in supermarkets and restaurants in many countries.

    Recipe Homemade Tahini

With experimentation, I have established that if you are after a really smooth tahini, you need to be using white sesame seeds. Unhulled, brown sesame seeds will give you a slightly grainer, more bitter tahini as will black sesame seeds (obviously these will give you a black tahini). So bare...

    Recipe Vegan Milk Pudding

I went looking for a recipe to try for the milk/cream CookingBites ingredient challenge. I thought to myself that someone somewhere must have a milk pudding recipe, straight and simple. And they do. The Canadians have one. So I'm going to make it dairy free (for obvious reasons) and because...

Recipe Chocolate, ginger and chilli, gluten-free, vegan cake

This was based on a recipe I saw in the Tesco magazine and was rather sceptical as I could not see how the ingredients would make a Victoria sponge. So I tried it with my own take on it. 400g gluten free self-raising flour 1 1/4 tsp bicarbonate of soda 200g caster sugar 50g cocoa powder 115ml...

    Recipe Cauliflower steaks

There was a bit of a PR problem for M&S earlier this year for selling cauliflower 'steaks' with a dressing for £2ish. So I made my own for a tiny fraction of the price. Inspired by this post and the thread: Tater Tots, I experimented. Well OK, I just added a whole load of spices! I made this for my vegan son so the aioli is made with aquafaba. Fun with kale!

First, a disclaimer: I am not a kale evangelist. I don’t expect to convert anybody here to become a kale lover who hates it right now. And, to be honest, I’ll readily pick almost any other green instead of kale when I want to make something. However, all the people stating how much they hate...
