vegan
Veganism is the practice of abstaining from the use of any product created by or obtained from any living creature.
Veganism is the practice of abstaining from the use of animal products, particularly in diet, and an associated philosophy that rejects the commodity status of animals. A follower of the diet or the philosophy is known as a vegan. Distinctions may be made between several categories of veganism. Dietary vegans refrain from consuming animal products, not only meat but also eggs, dairy products and other animal-derived substances. The term ethical vegan is often applied to those who not only follow a vegan diet but extend the philosophy into other areas of their lives, and oppose the use of animals for any purpose. Another term is environmental veganism, which refers to the avoidance of animal products on the premise that the industrial farming of animals is environmentally damaging and unsustainable. Interest in veganism increased in the 2010s, especially in the latter half. More vegan stores opened and vegan options became increasingly available in supermarkets and restaurants in many countries.
I saw a pot of Oatly Creme Fraiche in the supermarket the other day and bought it. It is made from oats and coconut.
What shall I do with it? Anyone have some savoury ideas using creme fraiche I can try?
I've never cooked with dairy creme fraiche as it was not commmon in the UK when I learnt...

Ok ,this counts as weird and we're not 100% sure on it but...
We also did the flavouring with both ground coffee and instant coffee. To be honest, we are not sure which one we preferred.
Ingredients
2 large organic sweet potatoes
1-2 tbsp Olive oil
2-3 tbsp ground coffee
1/2 tsp sea salt
1 ½...
For weird combinations that work this definitely qualifies.
As with all chilli recipes, this is one where you'll want to adjust the chilli quantity according to your tastes. I like my chilli hot, and the quantities used reflect this. If you need to store coconut milk, you can decant it into...
Over the years I've been looking for a substitute to chilli con carne. Something vegan that tastes just as good and I have finally come up with a good pot of chilli sans carne. As a word of warning, we like it spicy, so if you don't ...halve the chilli quantity (dried and fresh). If the end...
Until this week I hadn't thought it possible to have a dairy free cheese fondue. All my previous attempts at a vegan cheese sauce had failed to produce anything even vaguely acceptable to both my husband and I. So I was a touch uncertain about trying a totally new recipe from a totally new...
Hello to all fellow Cooking Bites members! It's been a while and it feels good to be back. I hope everyone is well!
I have been thinking about eliminating meat products from my diet (for the last year, roughly), for a number of reasons. The animal-cruelty aspect of things, the health side of...
Mudjadara* is a lovely comfort food from the Middle-East. It reminds me of Indian Kitchiri which is claimed to be the origin of British Kedgeree. The charred cabbage adds a delicious taste, although I don’t think its authentic. Make it as spicy as you choose by adding extra chilli if you wish...
January this year is a month to eat out of the store cupboards and pantry .we simply have too much in them and it is the best way of clearing space, so this is the first of my meals from the cupboards (and fridge/freezer).
To this end, I've settled for an easy, quick but tasty dish made from...
[Mod.Edit]: I retitled the thread so it sits more comfortably in the vegetarian/vegan section (MG)
i wasn't sure where to post this...in gadgets or here but i figure more people use this here so i decided here. Someone has pointed out my method of getting moisture out of tofu is not the best...

Panch puran, also known as panch phoron, is a traditional spice mixture from Bengal. The word panch means ‘five’ in Hindi and the spice mix is sometimes called Indian five spice. You can buy it ready mixed in Asian supermarkets but its easy enough to make your own. Please tone down the chillies...
There is no doubt that veganism has taken the UK by storm in the last few years - there are now an estimated at 3.5 million vegans in the UK. Vegan food ranges are now being stocked in all our supermarkets, there are lots of new vegan restaurants opening and The Great British Bake Off recently...
I can't think of a catchier name.

1.5 red onion cut into six wedges
Half a head of garlic. Cloves separated, skin left on.
Salt, pepper, chilli flakes.
Rapeseed oil to roast.
Put everything in oven...

We are having this tonight. I couldn't find the Massaman curry paste at first so thought I was going to have to make it. Fortunately, while I was looking up the recipe, Craig found it. However, I did notice there were vegetarian versions of the curry paste recipes in our True Thai cookbook...
I was tasked with making scones for a women's meeting to cover everyone with food allergies, coeliac etc. So I needed to cover
vegan
gluten free
nut free
dried fruit free
I tried to make one batch to cover everyone but ended up with three. One lot made with rice milk. This turned out ok but...
Have you ever eaten hearts of palm? They are one of my favourite vegetables - I've only ever found them in tins in the UK. Like this:
I'm not sure if they can be obtained as a fresh ingredient.
I'd be interested to hear how people use them.
