Are there foods you used to hate that you like now? What changed?

I’m sure we can’t be talking about the same thing? 😱

Being forced to eat it as a child I just can’t imagine it ever being good?
I don’t mind other frozen veg, edamame beans, spinach, green beans, sweetcorn and even brussel sprouts (for brussel sprout mash) are all fine by me but mixed veg.. oh dear the thought brought a little bit of sick back up 😂
I use those in a couple of dishes. Pot pies and a dish that was called Spanish or Mexican rice, which of course it is not, when I first saw the recipe when I was in my 20s. The recipe was posted on here as a cheap, easy, quick, nutritious meal when someone asked for meals of those types. In fact, I mentioned it when you were asking about meals your boys could make for themselves.

There's nothing wrong with them. But, I can understand that being forced to eat them repetitively as a child might give one a strong dislike of them as an adult. I doubt I would particularly like them all by themselves instead of part of a whole dish as I use them.

When we were kids my family had an allotment so we ate fresh. I don't have that luxury so I bought Aldi peas carrots, broccoli and cauliflower.

Nothing wrong with that - here, if a fruit or vegetable is out of season, I’ll gladly buy frozen, because that stuff is picked when it’s ripe and flash-frozen, and I’d rather have that than something like an unripe, watery winter strawberry.

Half the time, even when they’re in season, frozen seems better than fresh because fresh is so often picked ahead of time and artificially ripened, even in summer.

Brussels Sprouts. As a child these were always boiled, and I thought they tasted like a garbage can smells. Because I don't like being a picky eater, many years later at a restaurant I ordered roasted brussels sprouts. Now I look for them on the menu, but only if they're roasted. As a child I also had a problem with sardines, mainly because I thought they were raw fish. Now I eat them fairly regularly because they're high protein and easy to snack on.

I gave up eating Brussels sprouts at the age of 13, when I picked one off the plate, and a huge green caterpillar poked out. :hyper: Didn't touch them again for about 10 years.
These days, I buy them and eat them when ever I can find them, although I don't think I've ever had them roasted; usually blanched and then sautéed.

Mixed into a dish I can see it but boiled on their own it’s a big no for me. It’s the way all the veg blends out with none of the flavours being distinct and something happens to the carrots, they must cook at a different rate or change when frozen because they never hit any mark.

I don’t dislike frozen fruit or veg at all. It’s useful and some of it’s very good, but you probably had to be faced with days and days in a row of watery mixed veg cooked to death and served fairly cold before to decide “no thanks!”

I could do frozen carrots (the chantenay ones are pretty good roasted), frozen broccoli and frozen cauliflower I’d like separately but not mixed up in one bag.
The green bags I’ve tried, frozen edamame, beans and peas would be lovely if I could stand pea’s!

There was a guy in Waitrose last time I was there buying one carrot and two mushrooms 😂
Loose veg is still a goer?

Try them sautéed and with a bit of soy sauce... 👍

(Toss in some sesame seeds.)
