Building a Burger

Likewise, any cheese is game, though I do have favorite pairings, I guess. For example, a favorite burger we have at home here is made with Boursin garlic cheese spread and a thick slice of raw onion.

I didn't know you could get Boursin in the US. I've been using it lately quite a lot. Its certainly delicious. I do like the idea of it contrasted with the raw onion on a burger.
Yup, easily available here in a multitude of blends.

I use any cheese I have to hand if its a good melting cheese. I've used camembert, brie, Emmental, blue cheese.

The most popular cheese for cheeseburgers in the US is American Cheese, from the cheep, highly processed American "cheese product" to the more traditionally made American Cheese. The big reason is because of how perfectly it melts on a burger.

Swiss cheese is also popular, especially combined with sautéed mushrooms and onions on a burger.

People use all kinds of cheese on burgers, but American and Swiss are probably the most popular.

Strange, I like most kinds of cheese but never on a burger.
