Christmas 2022

You’re missing the point. When you send Christmas cards and don’t get any back, it still gives you a nice, warm, fuzzy feeling inside…of superiority over being more thoughtful than anyone else you know!

I thought about sending you a Christmas card, knowing how much you like them, but I haven't gotten one from you -- and you have my address.

CD :D

I’m a regular Christmas curmudgeon, but we’ve got the tree up and most gifts purchased. I had a baking day with my mom & brother about a month ago. The shortbread and rum balls that were produced that day are now gone, no idea how that happened…

We’re headed to my parents’ place both Christmas eve and Christmas day - my husband is estranged from his parents so we haven’t seen or spoken to them for several years now.

Christmas eve, I’ll be making prime rib with red wine jus, a recipe that TastyReuben gave to me several years ago - unsure what sides my parents will be providing, but I know that my dad has already made mince tarts and hard sauce for dessert.

No 💩, I thought about sending you a card, but I thought it would make you mad!

Nah - you´ve got it all wrong. That warm , fuzzy feeling is snarfing back all those wierd beers (from you Advent calendar) with pomegranate, holy basil leaves and contentious quantities of tonka beans...

How appropriate today’s offerings!

We gave up sending Xmas cards about 20 years ago.
We gave up cards years ago too - apart from very close family. I love Christmas but it seems like a lot of wasted resources and money for something that'll be thrown in the bin in a few weeks (we don't do birthday cards either). The money we save is donated to a food bank charity.

So far Christmas prep is well on its way....though I don't finish work until Friday so I'm having to multi-task (luckily work is very quiet so I can just have the laptop in the kitchen with me). Spekulatius biscuits have been made, mince pie pastry is in the fridge chilling, ice cream base ditto, and the Christmas pudding vodka is infusing. I still have the Vanillekipferl biscuits to make, and of course the cake to bake and decorate. My sister arrives tomorrow but the parents not until Christmas day, so (I think!) I've still got time to get everything done...sister will be roped in to help if needed :okay:

Tomorrow we’re going to make husband’s family’s traditional Christmas potato salad. Potatoes, carrots, eggs, dill pickles, and green peas, all mixed together with a startling quantity of mayo and an even more startling quantity of black pepper.

We started making this for ourselves post-estrangement, and I must say I think ours is better than the one his parents made (his mother tended to over-salt everything by a country mile).

I will be assigned to chopping duties tomorrow, because I can do that sitting down.

Well, my #$%& cold got worse today, instead of better. I now have a low grade fever. I just talked to my sister (the nurse) and she said we should just move everything back a week for New Year's weekend. TCU plays on NYE for a shot at the National Championship game in January. We can watch it together. That will be more fun than Christmas (what was that thud... oh, someone help Tasty up off the floor).

Geez, so many people we know are sick with the same thing - bad cold plus a fever. I hope you’re feeling better soon.

Nah…I see that as extending Christmas by a week. That’s a good thing!
