Cryptic food and drink

Oh - I see. So we are stumped!
You got it! Explanation as follows:
'Chelle sounded almost like = Shel[l]
she was meeting the sea captain = Shel + Drake
but she was only meeting his wife (4) - female drake = duck

I must be thick but I still don't get it. Shel + Drake somehow becomes female drake? And anyway, a duck isn't a female drake... is it? Wouldn't that be like saying a female man is a woman?

Do you understand @Duck59? I know you are cleverer than I. :D

Alright then - Mrs Drake is a duck!

I wonder how it got that name, since it is not the second part and seems to have no link with the first.

Here's another straightforward clue:

Flying seagulls soar for food (7,5)

I did once have a seagull swoop and take one out of my hand!

As for my clue: Its allegedly to do with the sunflower connection as they are members of the same family and the Italian for sunflower is girasole. Something to do with Italian immigrants in America. Sounds reasonable. As for the second word, I think it is to do with the taste - which is rather similar to the other plant bearing that name. I love both of them!
