Cryptic food and drink

I've never had the pleasure of the Suffolk coast, I'm afraid.

I do, though, have one short tale involving both Suffolk and beer. One afternoon in, I think, 1993, I was sauntering around Ipswich and spied a pub, outside which sat a large blackboard. On this board was a list of real ales that were on tap. At the very bottom, there was a line that read, "We do not sell lager."

Muttering something along the lines of "Splendid!" I ventured into said watering hole. As I recall, it was a period of some hours before I emerged once again into the streets of Ipswich.

I was in Ipswich the other day but didn't spot that pub!

1) I'm talking 20+ years ago, so it's probably gone or been turned into a trendy Bolivian/Peruvian lager bar. I recall it being near the bus station and I think it was called The Plough.

2) I've mentioned the brewery a few times in the beer thread, if that gives a clue.

Back on the subject of Adnams' beer, we opened a mini-keg of Southwold Bitter last night. Always a reliable beer and the third of four kegs we bought a few weeks back. Good value, too - you get free delivery if you spend £60 and four kegs just happen to come to...£60.

Meanwhile, the takeover of The Guardian by CookingBites members continues apace. I've got a letter in today's paper.

And a clue on the theme of the last few:

I shout "Raven!" but end up with a different Scottish beer (11)
