What I don't get is how a dishwasher can use less than the 9 litres that our full washing up bowl can take. And no we do not run things under water after washing or before. 1 day's washing up for 2 people equates to 9L here and if hubby is away from home, I can do 3 days on 1 bowl.

The thing that I find magic is that they only come out clean if they're dirty - i.e. the dishwasher tablets require dirt to work else it just gets washed away down the drain and you're just trying to clean your dishes with warm water. Pre-rinse more than wash. No sponges or cloths were hurt in the loading of this dishwasher.
