Dishwasher V’s Handwashing

We (meaning me) used to hand wash most things. MrsT has this opinion that dishwashers are expensive to run, waste water, damage dishes, and don’t work as well as handwashing. Easy opinion to have when you wash zero dishes…

For the longest time, all we put in the dishwasher were plates, bowls, mugs, and flatware, but a few years ago, I rebelled, and now pots and pans go in there, plastic stuff on the top shelf, other utensils…if it says it’s dishwasher-safe and I can get it to fit, in it goes.

We used to run the dishwasher every four days, and now it’s every two, with all the extra stuff.

You and I are married to the same bride. My wife insisted that a dishwasher uses more water than washing by hand. I don’t put pots and pans in ours but everything else goes in. I don’t know what happened that my wife finally relented. Probably her dad. I told her for the longest time a dishwasher does a better job and uses less water. Probably 100 times. Her dad drops by one day and told her he got a new dishwasher and how great it works. Then we had to buy a new dishwasher “because ours was old”
