How is the corona virus affecting you?

Testing, that's your problem. Too much testing means too many cases. Hey, you there, Fake News, are you writing this down? No testing means no cases. Simple.
(Am I doing this right?)
Sorry, it feels wrong to make flippant comments on such a tragic situation, but grown-up discussion is beyond me at the moment.

Sadly, it is not a flippant comment, it is official policy.

Many of us have inept governments making poor decisions at this time, but yours is a whole different level, yours is the only one making terrible public health decisions for their own enrichment. We feel for you, knowing that a change of course won't happen until at least January, and it is not a given that collectively you are going to vote the present incumbent out anyway.

Yep, no matter how deep the hole our President digs for himself, I worry he will find some way to get out of it in November. If he loses, I worry about him burning the bridges behind him, and trying to sabotage the next President. But, if he loses, he won't have the support of Republicans in congress. They will turn on him in a heartbeat.

Hopefully, enough Americans will decide it is time for a grownup to be the President. He may not be their first choice, but at least he has a grasp on reality.

If Biden is smart, he will campaign on beating the virus, implementing practical steps for rebuilding the economy and genuine long term drives to narrow the racial divide. Simple, clear stuff that sticks to the middle ground and that moderate Republicans can get behind just enough.

Our own idiot PM is trusting to the "common sense" of the British people. Yes, we noticed how much common sense was being displayed by the thousands who packed themselves onto Bournemouth beach and proceeded to get as drunk as possible while using the entire area as a giant toilet and leaving behind an environmental disaster that even Shell might have been impressed by.

The beaches should be closed immediately - not, as Matt Hancock is threatening 'if there is a spike'.

I can't think of a better way to get crowds flocking to the beaches than telling them they 'might' be closed soon. Hopefully, the weather might deter them over the weekend.

I've just been watching the guy who lives opposite me. He does up cars to sell as a hobby. Some strangers came round (would be buyers). He let the woman into his house (against current advice) to wait while he and the man stuck their heads together under the bonnet of the car to have a good look at the engine. Their faces were inches apart and they were chatting away. No masks. This is but one small example of the fact that people are simply ignoring social distancing.

Exactly the same round here. We saw one of our neighbours out talking to someone who was in a car. Our neighbour was leaning so far into the driver's window so that their faces were inches apart. And that's even before we get onto the bunch of teenagers who were hanging about at the bottom of a set of steps. They were obviously smoking joints and one lad was spitting all over the place at regular intervals. By the time they'd finished, they must have been knee-deep in expectoration.

I will not defend what we saw in Bournemouth and other places, but you cannot confine an entire population indefinitely. We see a lot of frustration and bottled anger, domestic abuse is through the roof and people are feeling the mental strain. I understand why many people headed to the beach, there was three months of anxiety, self denial and distancing from normal life that had to come out. My hope now is that this was just the cork being released from the bottle and use of seaside towns will settle to something manageable after the initial rush, particularly now that proper holidays can be planned again.
I think next week will see similar behaviour around pubs for the first few days and note that a couple of pubs near me are choosing not to open immediately and are waiting to see what happens.
