How is the corona virus affecting you?

My corona problem today: my long, luxurious locks are now so flowing that today, a clump of it caught my peripheral vision, and I thought it was a big hairy spider sitting on my shoulder, and I screamed like a little schoolgirl and nearly peed myself.

I don't fit into the first nine groups. 😀 Many of my friends/family have had their first and some even second jab, but I'm the first of my family/friends in my age group who is not medically vulnerable or a health/care worker.
I understand the wait is long, but on the other hand it must be reassuring to not be much at risk.

Samoa who had no deaths, Taiwan also did better than us, Australia economy is firing again but we are lagging behind. Our minister of tourism visited the glaciers (huge tourists) and said we have nothing for you. But they are spending a million dollars a day for homeless into motels. That's not good in my opinion. You may hear glossy stuff about our country, it's not true

Do you know why they are putting the homeless in motels? Our new President spent $86 million to put immigrants in hotels on our border. I understand wanting to help them but it hurts my heart that so many American people are homeless on the streets. I think we should be helping them, especially veterans, as well.

Over the summer break I watched a series of youtube videos on homeless people in Usa ...it was heartbreaking...and as you mention veterans, I agree, veterans should not get homeless...noone should...
There were single Moms, teens,youth, old...different backgrounds,cultures...
Seeing veterans homeless was mindblowing, as I thought that is simply not possible, serving the country in such a selfless way, hardships all over...and then...

Yes, it is very heartbreaking.

I remember there was a guy that would sit in a lawn chair on his mom's front lawn and talk to the trees and passing cars. They lived next door to my grandmother and he was out there all the time. Come to find out that he was a war veteran and something happened to just cause him to snap. Decades ago, Ronald Reagan closed down many of the mental health care facilities. Many ended up on the streets if they didn't have family and/or friends for support. It was awful. Fast forward 20 years. A man in our neighborhood was arrested for bludgeoning his mother to death with a butcher's knife. He, too, had been in a mental health facility after his time in the service. His mom took him in. It made the papers in our town at the time.

I don't understand how people can just overlook others in need. I was thrown out by my parents with nowhere to go. I survived but it was hard. I put myself through college. I don't have much but I share what I can as often as I can. I wouldn't want to be any other way.

He, too, had been in a mental health facility after his time in the service. Hi
That really makes me sad. Politics collecting political short sighted points has never done any good.
Those war veterans were going through unimaginable difficult service time, and they need a lot of specific support. Not all, but some obviously need institutions and care...it makes me feel so so sad they cannot get it...
It is horrible to take someone's life like that...is he in jail since?
Not being an expert, one could wonder, what if he got the care he needed, would she still be alive? And he deserved care. Saddening.
There are all kinds of stories of reintegration of war veterans...some are successful and role-model examples of mental strength, and all virtues, never easy, but doable.

So sorry about the hardships you had to go through. Great that you did college! Well done.
Are you a war veteran too? Or if not, what jobs did you do after college?

Housing was a problem under national, but under labour the party that talks a lot but delivers nothing it's exploded. They promised 10,000 new homes under kiwi build, they delivered 300, then they changed the name, and their promises, and it's getting worse so they are paying motels to put them up, along with sex offenders next door. Go figure.
It's a massive problem here, and one I hate. I could say we are all good as my family all own ours. But I'm concerned about the poor. I was bought up in a state house so I know how they feel.
Vets should never be homeless as well, they have served and need looking after.

Talk about overpromising! 300 of 10,000? That's outrageous!

I am sure it's difficult to know so many are in need and there's not enough being done to help. I feel the same way here. It's like these people get elected and completely forget about all the problems they were going to address. I wish there was a way to really solve these problems around the world.

They were elected by promising everything, don't get me started on light rail promises, and the government of transparency. They set dates to announce dates. Who does that? Oh that's right labour bailed out nz media to over 100 million dollars. People still follow like sheep.

I don't mean to continue the off-topic trend, but I have an answer to the question MJD posted.

One reason is probably because the immigrants are being detained by the government. When the government/police detain someone, they are responsible for housing them somewhere, and we don't have enough places to house these immigrants, many of them children.

On topic, while detained, they can be tested for Covid-19. I don't know if they are being tested, but it seems like a good idea, to me.
