Mince pies advice

Not a surprise, really. Why would you call something mincemeat if it doesn't have meat in it?
Mrs Beeton:
2 lbs minced beef tongue, 1 lb minced suet, 2 lbs sugar, 2 lbs currants, 2 lbs raisins, 1 lb candied lemon peel, 3 lbs chopped apples, allspice, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg (¼ tsp) 1 tsp salt, 1 tsp black pepper, ½ pint brandy, 1 ¼ pints sherry, 1 pint cider.

Everyone: Mincemeat with actual meat?! No one makes that anymore!

I’m guessing it’s bouncier in texture than we’re used to.

I recently searched for a mince recipe without the raisins/sultanas etc as I’ve never enjoyed the super sweet flavour of them.
Apple and cranberry version using things like candied peel or almonds or coconut seem popular alternatives to traditional mincemeat.

Anyone tried anything like that?
