Plans for today (2023)

Today:
1) Watch the IPL
2) Make a quiche with Swiss chard
3) Make some guava jam
4) Watch AC Milan v Inter, Champion's League semi final, 2nd leg.

Finishing season 5 of Poldark, doing laundry, packing, and cooking. Right now eating French toast with a bit of goat cheese, strawberries, and honey.

Well I am stuck in Houston for a few more days, SIL's flight from Puerto Rico today got canceled. Apparently a flight attendant was in "no condition" to fly (not sure what that means) so the airline (Spirit) actually had to fly in another attendant who arrives there in the morning, so her return flight is "maybe" tomorrow, not sure when. I rebooked my flight for Saturday.

My poor SIL had to travel quite a distance to the airport and sit and wait most of the afternoon before finding out that the flight was cancelled (it kept getting delayed), and she's had a tummy ache all day. Now she is waiting in line for a hotel voucher because it's too far for her to travel back to her mom's just for the night.

Never flown with them. I'm a Southwest Airlines, Delta, or United gal. Southwest got a bad rap after their Christmas holiday 2022 travel fiasco but they're still my favorite. I was able to change my flight for only an additional $132 to go home Saturday, no other fees, no penalties. I'm also a notorious over packer and SW allows 2 free checked bags...so I always have room for all the shoes, handbags, etc. that I want.

American is based here at DFW Airport, so I fly them mostly. When I was flying 100-plus days a year, I racked up a lot of miles. My AAdvantage status gets me free bags on all flights, and I get First Class upgrades on a lot of flights.

United has non-stop flights from San Juan to Houston. It is more expensive, but United is a much better airline than Spirit.

For those of you in Europe, I believe Spirit Airlines has a sister company over there...

Err, I failed.
I need to try again today.
Yeah, that boring purchase ($820) has been made after an entire morning looking at and researching various compressors and nebulisers. My existing one is taking an hour (each time) to nebulise 6ml of meds twice a day and we're both bored stiff with it. Not sure what's wrong but it is 4 years outside of its warranty, so it's not exactly unexpected.

The down side is that my current one can run off the car 12v system, the new one can't. So I'll keep the old one and see if I can get some new parts for it (it was discontinued 3 years ago). If I can get it working at a vaguely sensible time frame, then it can live in the car as a backup for holidays.

We couldn't afford a new portable one that ran off batteries or mains. It started at $1,500 before you bought the supplies for a year plus the $225 of 3 months non-prescription medication. (I have 2 routine meds for nebuliser and 2 emergency medications that need to be nebulised.)

Due to the fairly close timing of our flight bookings to time of departure, my SIL booked with Spirit for her flight to PR because of the huge disparity in ticket prices for close range dates. I mistakenly assumed that was her return flight carrier as well. She just texted a bit go that United put her up nicely at a Hampton and she was showering and going to bed.

I finally finished Poldark! Now I'm going to watch that recent Ben Affleck and Matt Damon movie Air.

Well, 2 out of 4. I watched the IPL, made the quiche and at least bought the guavas. They're now filling the kitchen with their amazing perfume.
No AC Milan because the Satellite TV Service decided not to work.
So today, with a bit of luck, I get to make the guava jam, and I'm going to do a batch of Caponata as well. THEN I get to watch Real Madrid vs Man City. That'll be a game and a half.

I do like a good gad about đź‘Ť

I could do with a bout of gadding - but circumstances don't allow due to my slowly recovering broken leg and my partner, who I don't think would take well to going away (due to his dementia).

Make the most of it while you can!

Plans today mainly include the dentist, and I always treat myself to breakfast after the dentist, but since I’ve just made a potato-sausage quiche, I won’t be getting my usual eggs-sausage-hash browns breakfast. I think I’ll opt for a croissant and coffee somewhere.

After that, work. I’m getting a bit frustrated with a work project that’s one step forward and two steps back, but I’m determined to get it done, one way or another.
