Plans for today (2023)

Well I had just started season 3 of Poldark last night and was planning on watching the rest of it, but there were storms rumbling through last night and the TV won't turn on. It's Roku. I changed out the remote batteries just in case that was it but nope. It has been raining here a lot, more storms expected today. Not a whole lot to do.

Edit: it was a reset of the power strip that fixed it.

My brother and sister-in-law's dogs are eating better than some people, LOL. They love scrambled eggs with cheese for breakfast and ribeye steak scraps for dinner.

Cruisy day until 6pm then I have to go pick wife up and meet daughter at designated place and drop them to the town hall. 10yo eli is singing in a school production. Then I pick them up at 9pm and reverse to cycle. Should be home by 9.45?
Then its rum time.
I need to gas up before then.i just had shrooms on toast.

Going to ride to Bristol (technically South Gloucestershire) on a less than direct route to enjoy the view and to go John Lewis shopping for a television for my sons birthday, which isn’t til October but he’s excited and wants to look now.

Then horribly and most reluctantly Ikea which is somewhere I can’t abide, Ikea seems to suck the will to live from my very core!

This is partially my fault as I told him about the old fashioned concept of a ‘bottom drawer’

So he’s sensibly collecting things ready for moving into his new flat but is on a budget and wants me along to guide him away for purchasing things that won’t last or he doesn’t need.

There is an IKEA a few miles from me, and I actually like to wander around there, especially when it is North Texas hot in July/August and I want to do some walking in air-conditioned comfort. IKEA and the local indoor malls are great for walks on hot weekdays.

I also have quite a few things from IKEA in my house, and have been happy with them. Putting things together with picture instructions comes easy for me, so no cursing when I get my purchases home. I also find that the clean, simple lines and solid black colors of IKEA things blend well with the antique furniture pieces I have scattered around my house.

There are a good many recycling websites that will help with that. Some are worldwide based and some are UK based. I use one called freecycle.org and you choose your country and closest city. They are great for picking up ask sorts of stuff and if you're careful and have somewhere to store things, you can get some excellent quality furniture and white goods competition completely free. The trick is to watch and learn, then act fast when you see something good going free, it's usually first come first gets it... we've done really well with it over the years and when we left the UK, all of our stuff went for free on there as well.
We were able to pick up quite a bit of stuff when we got to Australia from the same site as well which has helped so much over the years.

We also have quite a lot of Ikea stuff in our house. Their kitchen range is great. All of my pans (with glass lids) are the Ikea 365 range. Most of the utensils are from IKEA, plus quite a lot of our bedroom furniture as well.

We also use Ikea to hide from the heat of the day as well when it's very hot out (as well as the cinema). Hubby works just across the road from there so often puts his head in for the odd thing here and there. We don't typically buy the cheapest stuff it the second cheapest though, going with quality over value, but all of my storage jars are from IKEA. I simply couldn't afford proper mason or kilner jars.

I don‘t have a problem with the actual products, most are surprisingly durable, some are superior and it’s where I bought the majority of their student kitchen stuff from.

It’s the layout forcing you to look at everything by walking a certain route (unless you know the shortcuts) and the relentless dreary fluorescent tube lighting that does me in!

Absolutely yes to freecycle, gumtree, eBays ‘free for collection’ and Facebook marketplace (although I confess I don’t do facebook other than for business things) but this time because the recess the cabinet will be going in is 224cm wide (and utilising the full width is the way to go in a flat) it means Ikea wins due to the variety of cabinet sizes and finishes that fit nicely together.

caseydog my Spanish friends like to go to Ikea in the summer for the aircon too 😆
Although Spain has now passed laws saying commercial premises and public buildings can’t turn it down past 27 degrees which to a Brit is waaaaay warm!

Both of my 42-inch flat TVs are on IKEA stands. They are very solid. :okay:

I know where all the cut-throughs are. But, I sometimes walk the whole path just for the exercise of my soon to be 62-year-old body.🧓 The lighting in the Frisco IKEA is not bad. It is a newer store, and the entire roof is covered in Solar panels aimed South. North Texas is ideal for solar power, and LED lighting is much more in use in newer buildings here.

Wow, that's 80F indoors. :heat: That must get rather stuffy.

All of our Frisco public schools use geothermal systems for heating and cooling. It was expensive up front, but will pay for itself over time.

I also like IKEA 365+ dinnerware. I have two of these sets to stock my kitchen, and have a supply of spare pieces of everything for when I inevitably break a piece.

It also photographs well. These re all IKEA 365+ dinnerware plates and bowls...

We are big IKEA fans, a lot of our furniture and crockery are from there :)

You acclimatise fast and it’s mostly a dry heat during the day being near the Sahara and wotnot so it doesn’t bother the natives.
Over 30 degrees I stay in with the aircon on, the early morning and evenings are your friend, the afternoon.. nope 😂

We’re just in the process of covering our industrial unit roofing in solar panels.

I’m pretty excited about it. At family meetings it always came out as a no because it would take too long to pay for itself and the panels lifespan was too short.

Of course electricity prices have changed all of that and soon we will be able to provide all the tenants will affordable electricity, most of these are small businesses that are being pushed to the brink of bankruptcy by fuel costs so it’s a win win 👍👍👍 😊
