Plans for today (2023)

Nothing exciting - work (from home), run into town for a few things, maybe mow some of the yard this afternoon. Probably buy a couple more bags of mulch. Slowly but surely, getting that done.

Making salad tonight (though it’s a citrusy one this time around).
My lawn man just arrived. Drove up my driveway. Car was idling. He looked around my front lawn and decided to make it next week . We were 2 weekly. We may have just moved to the 3 week cycle? He backed out and drove off

My lawn man is my husband.

Been waiting around all day for FedEx to pick up a package. I have the (small) package in between the glass door and the wood door on our side of the house. When I scheduled the pickup, I made it very clear in the instructions for the driver to pick up the package from "the door at the end of the driveway." So if you are facing our house, to the left is our son's side of the house, and you have to depart from the driveway and walk up a gravel hill to reach it (and it's further away). So of course that's where the FedEx guy went, and he knocked, but my son is working nights now and was sleeping. So instead of trying to come to the other door (the one at the end of the driveway that I specifically asked for them to visit to pick up the package), the driver left.

About an hour ago FedEx called me and said that the driver attempted to pick up the package but no one was home. I told him I had been home all day and explained to him that the driver was supposed to pickup the package "from the door at the end of the driveway" but obviously didn't since the package was still there. The rep on the phone asked if there were any instructions that would make it easier for the driver, and I said, "Yes. We have a straight driveway. If the driver pulls into or walks up the driveway and keeps walking straight towards the house without deviating from the driveway, he will reach the door at the end of the driveway." He asked for the color of the door, and I told him that both doors were brown. He asked if one of the doors had a porch, and I explained that both doors had porches. He asked if I had any further instructions that would make it simpler, and I suggested that if the driver couldn't figure out which door was at the end of the driveway, since one of them was up a gravel hill and not at the end of the driveway, that maybe he wasn't qualified for this job. I chuckled when I said it so I didn't sound so beetchy, but I was a bit irritated.

They are going to attempt to pick it up again tomorrow. I won't be home of course, but I will leave a note on the door. But I have left notes on the door before when expecting packages to be delivered and had the driver not even notice, then walk up the hill and deliver them to my son's side. Which since on his days off he doesn't leave the house or even look outside, so if it's raining outside my packages have gotten soaking wet before (the driver may have delivered them when it wasn't raining and the packages sat there for hours). Sigh.

The thing is, there is a FedEx hub 4 miles from my house, but my company does not want me to use the hub for this project (I've no idea why). I have offered in the past to take it and drop it off, and my supervisors shut me down, "Nope. Schedule the pickup ground from your house."

We used to have a similar problem with the road offically finishing before the a bridge and drivers not going through the "tunnel" that the bridge caused in the embankment. We lived in the totally hidden courtyard on the other side of the very high embankment. We resorted to a photograph over which we put an arrow pointing in the direction of that they needed to drive to reach the house. It worked.

Also a note on the other door saying "not this door" could be handy.

There are FedEx drop boxes all over Frisco, and a FedEx store inside Walmart. There is a UPS store in the same parking lot. I just take packages to them. As a bonus, they give me a receipt, so they can't say they never received my package.

I have UPS and USPS accounts, so I print my own labels and have a good supply of packaging on hand. I don't have a FedEx account, because every package that I've ever lost was shipped FedEx.

My package was labeled. I have accounts through UPS, USPS, and FEDEX, but I have to follow required protocol.

The problem with that is he uses food delivery services regularly and we don't. Apparently the pizza guy is smarter than the FedEx person because food delivery people never come to our side. My son's side is a blocked off wing from ours. I wish we could zone our residence as "A" and "B" but apparently cannot.

Just add that the note is for the FedEx pickup only.

Yep, says it all. Hot food delivery needs someone who can at least read...

At least not officially ... but delivery (and hence collection) addresses can be separate to billing addresses (mine is) and you could try an A & B unofficially and see what happens.

For us our electoral roll address uses the name of the local area (which is 1km down the road and officially qualifies as a hamlet (cluster of less than 5 houses)... ). But our postal address is a town with a list office in it that's 16km away (10 miles). Both addresses relate to the same property, but our bank has one address (electoral roll) and we have to use the postal address for most other things. After 5 years, we are now at the wonderful situation where our bank finally accepts payment irrespective of which address is used but it has taken a lot of years to get to that point.

We have never had any trouble with couriers. Wife gets drop off to her work. We call them " porch pirates " here. Stuff goes missing at xmas a lot.
We can drop off to any post office.

Out for dinner last night dinner club.
Vietnamese.
Cup of coffee. Italian blend with cream.
Pushed the boat out. :)

Porch Pirates is a universal term, it seems. That's what we call them here. They are a major problem in a lot of places, but not too terrible where I live.

When one of my neighbors get's a big Amazon delivery, and I know they aren't home, I will often bring it to my house, and call them to let them know to come get it. Since my office is in my house, I can do that.

So few couriers deliver to farms that they're not a problem here either!

And the post office won't receive parcels from couriers (for you to collectit then to finish the delivery, except for 1 courier company which is part of their group), but that's fine because it's a 32km round trip (about 24 miles) for me to go and collect.

Some couriers have arrangements for your parcel to be randomly left at an unknown location (the 2 in my local postal town appear to be the rural supplies store and one of the service garages (mechanics). You don't get told it will be left there and unless you've managed to get your mobile number on to the outside of parcel, you won't get told where it is either when it had been left somewhere random! It's not a system I've found particularly friendly! And isn't helpful when you never go to the postal town because it's north of you and you always go south. I avoid companies that I can't control who delivers my parcel!

I usually pay extra for auspost (pay to choose to use AusPost instead of a courier) to drop stuff off for me. They have my permission to leave things on the veranda if it doesn't fit in the letterbox. Again not a problem because we're so remote. I'll often come home and find a parcel and my mail under it.

Even my Amazon deliveries come via the post office out here!

I'm finally getting to things that are behind for months or more due to us lacking the ability to do something about them. Like wiping down window stills, dusting, deep cleaning etc.. It's so satisfying after a year of almost nothing!
I understand now why you keep busy SatNavSaysStraightOn .. if you're going to be in pain anyway better make it a fun day with pain than a boring one. I guess I've finally come to accept my condition. Pain or not, I just can't stand being unproductive anymore.
