Plans for today (2023)

Rome was my least favorite city in Italy when I was there. The Coliseum was like Stonehenge -- looks amazing in good photos, but underwhelming in person. But, I didn't have a guide with a car, so I was limited on what I could see.

Rome was 1 of our favorite cities when DD and I went. Since it was just the 2 of us, we took a week bus tour of Italy but arrived several days prior because DD wanted to spend a couple of days in the Vatican museums plus visit another museum that had a traveling Egyptian exhibit, and spend more time in the Coliseum, Roman Forum and the like than is allowed in guided tours. We did our own thing in several cities on the tour. We got to see a set of beautiful illuminated manuscripts that our tour guide didn’t know was there in Siena, plus eat and shop in places I had been to in my 2 previous trips to Italy. That trip was the ONLY vacation ever where we ate wonderful meals, but had to buy belts to keep our pants from feeling like they were going to fall off due to weight loss from all the walking we were doing.

Rome is an incredible city, but yes, it's crazy if you're accustomed to a bucolic lifestyle! So much to see and so much to do in a city with more than 2,000 years history.
It reminds me of what Caracas used to be like: intense, frenetic, full of life, 24/7, always something going on. Actually, London, of all cities, is similar these days. We were still in the streets one morning last year at 1.30am and the streets were full of life

Hope it's not gonna spread, that life at 1.30 am, the nature needs silence or at least we should observe more what our party lifestyle is doing to us. I'm loving party and to continue partying we've to watch out

What’s “boondoggle”?
A frustrating waste of time and effort.

We had to be off the ship by 7:45AM. Gangways were on decks 6 and 7, and our cabin on 12.

With everyone getting off the ship, we couldn’t get a lift down, every one that stopped was already packed.

We ended up catching an elevator up and then riding it back down, which of course stopped at every floor down to deck 6.

We got to deck 6 and there was a ship’s crew person there telling us the gangway for deck 6 was closed and we had to go back up to deck 7…along with 200 other people.

She was nice, though, and grabbed two passing crew members and had them carry our bags up the stairs to deck 7, and we each also carried one, and we eventually got off the ship.

It took right at an hour.

Tour was fantastic, just got to the hotel. This is our waiting area while Reception checks us in:

And we got a little tiramisu to nosh on while we wait:

It's not even pronounced. The Hawks from the Real Academia Española only spell it as "chile"
:laugh::laugh::laugh:

In Mexico (Mey-hico), the peppers are called chiles, but the bowl of meat dish was invented in Texas, and was named Chili (or chili con carne). In Texas, the spelling "chili" seems to have spread to the peppers over time, too. You'll see both spellings in grocery stores for the peppers, but the bowl of meat dish is always spelled chili.

As for chilli, I can't even type that spelling on my computer without overriding autocorrect. It automatically changes the spelling to chili.

Boondoggle is my 'word of the day'! The etymology is unknown.

Hi Guys

Sorry I’ve been away so long, it’s been craaaaZy.
No guarantees it’s over either 🙄 but we make the best of what we have.

Looking forward to catching up on here and getting back to posting some serious experimental kitchen soon!

xxx

Good to see you back and rattling the pans!

Were this a less polite group of fine, high-minded individuals, I would have used my preferred term: clusterf***!
It sounds like the usual ferry disembarking debacle I get when I go to Santander. The whole ferry (apart from pet people who always get called first) are told to return to the vehicle decks at the same time. This is a boat with a 2400 people capacity. So you leave your cabin and pack like sardines into the stairwells where you stand for an eon waiting for the vehicle deck doors to open, by which time you’re about 300 degrees 🥵 😆
