Plans for today (2023)

I spent six weeks crossing Spain in 1978. In Madrid, there were still soldiers with military rifles walking the streets. NOBODY there mentioned Franco, that I saw/heard.

Sounds interesting, why were you spending six weeks crossing Spain, general young person exploring travel type thing?

In the UK you'd be hard pushed to find anyone who knows much about the horrors that happened, but unlike the Spanish it's because we don't know much of anything about it.
I'm still amazed at the ignorance which prevails in the UK. I can remember, during the Falklands war, one of the big newspapers did a survey : " Where are the Falklands located?"
Over 70% thought they were north of Scotland.

Lol.even I know they are near Hawaii. :)

I love a bit of Columbo.
The very first day I finished working my notice I took the day off from my other more important job and refused to do anything, I sat in a beanbag in front of the TV drinking beer, watching Columbo and checking my watch regularly thinking if I was at work now I’d be.. (insert whatever you do at work that you dislike doing) 😂
Still think of that particular day with great fondness.

Even the guy in the supermarket who I’d asked the week before why the gluten free beer section hadn’t been refilled for months made sure they’d got in my favourite gluten free beer for the day.
Happy days.

Today is Veterans’ Day, and my usual plan is to go to Denny’s for a “Thank You For Your Service (TYFYS)” free breakfast, then Starbucks for a TYFYS free coffee (which I’m having right now), then Applebee’s or Chili’s for TYFYS free lunch, and by that time, I don’t really need the TYFYS free supper from Olive Garden, because MrsT is usually low-grade angry with me for running around all day getting treated while she’s stuck at home working.

But…it’s a Saturday, and some places observed the day yesterday, including Denny’s, so I missed my free breakfast.

MrsT offered to go out to breakfast at a new place that opened recently, so we did that, and I got a TYFYS free piece of cake from them, unexpectedly.

The rest of my plans seemed intact and back on track, as I checked to make sure Starbucks, et al, were observing the day today, but then…

“What time does ALDI open? I want to check them out!”
“9AM.”

😞

Off to ALDI. After we finished in ALDI, I started the car, it was a little after 10AM, and…

“Do you care, since we’re out, if we stop by Walmart? I want to look at the Christmas stuff!”
“That’s fine.”

😞 😞

“Christmas stuff” also apparently means clothes as well, so she burned a good hour in there, just farting around. It’s now almost noon and I’m just now getting my coffee - I’m about two hours behind, and when I dropped her at the house, she said, “Maybe don’t stop for lunch and we can go to Olive Garden together!”

I really look forward to a day off that’s just me running around on my own, and having the holiday on a weekend really <bleeped> that up!

Ah a day to yourself and being treated, how could you choose that over Aldi and Walmart? 😂
