Plans for today (2024)

Plans include working out what to eat this next coming week. We've got 4 days forecast over 30°C, so I'm thinking salads.

After that I've got to start getting ready for university but after a really bad asthma attack*, all I really want to do right now is go back to sleep. So I might just do that.

*my asthma is always a problem when the hawthorn is in flower and right now, it's in full flower locally.

A few years before leaving Hawaii, we opened a bank account at a branch that was in our community in Southern Arizona.
Not long ago, they were bought out by a much larger bank.
So, the plan for today was to spend time with our new banker and switch over all of our accounts ... DONE, even though it took us 3 hours :wacky:

I have to say that my plans today were to organise the gardener, take my kid to his swimming class, then to the gym, go to the other side of town to pick up some jars for hot sauce, and then give an English class.
First thing worked ok. Then I took Ian to his class, had to wait an inordinate amount of time, got stuck in traffic taking him to the gym, even more traffic coming home. Picked up the jars and the car gave out. Left it for 30 minutes and it was fine. Drove half way home and the petrol indicator said EMPTY. Stopped at a Mall and parked the car; called the mechanic. We decided to haul the car home with a tow truck. Got stuck in a jam because of an accident, and took 2 hours to get home. When I got home, my SIL was there.
Poured myself a single malt, lit up a cigar, and said "Sod it, life's a b****.

We're going to the beach and then going out to see some friends who are in a band play at a local bar. I can't believe they're still playing together and gigging after 30 years.
What a great night!

Sitting at the hospital right now while MrsT has a scheduled MRI on her hip. She’s had nagging back, hip, leg, and ankle problems for years.

We’ll probably find it’s a combination of stroke effects and the giant-ass bunion on her foot she refuses to have seen to.

After that, breakfast at Cracker Barrel, right over the road, and they serve boozy breakfast drinks now, so having one of those.

Then, since we’re out, she wants to stop at Meijer (combo grocery and department store) to have a look around, and then we’ve got to swing by the orchard for some fresh-pressed apple cider.

Leftover pizza and salad for supper tonight, so that’s sorted.

Lunchtime BBQ today, an invitation from a new British acquaintance.
We had a great time. Tomas (of German origin) and his wife (Venezuelan) cooked up a wonderful BBQ. Ian, Peter, Nicholas and I (combined 180+ years in Venezuela) spent a lovely first 30 minutes speaking to each other in fluent Spanish, then realised we were actually English... Ian's wife (Hungarian) is a lovely lady! Starters were Chilean empanadas. Tomas then came up with some divine cigars and 3 bottles of Single Malt. Got back about 2 hours ago, absolutely stuffed; I haven't eaten so much for months!
We all agreed that "we've got to do this again sometime" so I offered Indian cuisine. That will happen.

I recall something similar with 2 Dutch couples one time I was a voluntary youth hostel warden in the south of England. These 2 Dutch couples spent half an hour speaking broken English to each other, trying to explain things and eventually one of them said in English they needed to get their dictionary... I ended up pipping up and saying that given all 4 were from the same country, why did they just speak Dutch to each other? I didn't mind... there was much laughter all round
