Plans for today (2024)

I recall something similar with 2 Dutch couples one time I was a voluntary youth hostel warden in the south of England. These 2 Dutch couples spent half an hour speaking broken English to each other, trying to explain things and eventually one of them said in English they needed to get their dictionary... I ended up pipping up and saying that given all 4 were from the same country, why did they just speak Dutch to each other? I didn't mind... there was much laughter all round
At least they tried and it's done to make sure you didn't feel excluded

We did the grocery yesterday. I really hate shopping on the weekend and seriously try to avoid it. I "lost" the grocery list right after we got into the store, looked all over where we had been, couldn't find it, so decided to try and remember what was on list. Found the list while putting the groceries in the car. It ended up on the bottom of the basket under a bunch of fresh vegetable bags. Did pretty good, only missed 2 things, plus a BOGO of a new to us product I was going to look at. It was a big grocery list for us, $225, but 10ish dinner meals plus stuff for easy breakfasts. No meat, other than deli stuff, just under $20, otherwise, bakery, fresh and frozen veges, cream and butter, eggs, water for drinking, desserts and chips, some stock up the pantry items that were BOGO or deeply discounted, and eggs, 18 large, store brand because that's pretty much the only kind they had, that were $6.49. Wowza!!

Anyway, today's plan is to put away the rest of the pantry things I was too tired and back hurting too bad to mess with yesterday, order Craig's monthly allowance stuff thru his Medicare insurance plan, work on my miniature project, finally got that pesky sleeve sewed in last night, maybe make some marinara for a future meal, and nudge Craig again to do his tiny, little honey do project that I asked him to do almost a week ago.

The bottom panel came out of the porch screen door and kept coming out, I suspect Craig used it as a kick panel too many times, sigh..., and 1 of the pugs scooted out the sliding glass door, then out through the hole in the screen door, and off she went. Fortunately, it was our girl and she's a bit timid, actually surprised she had the courage to wiggle through the hole since she had to scrunch down, so she didn't go far, just across the street. If it had been the male, he would have been gone. He didn't realize there was a hole until he saw her go through and Craig was able to stop him. So, I ordered some hard metal mesh and metal screws, asked Craig to get the drill out, and put the screw head drill bit in, since I hate putting them in and getting them out, I installed the mesh on the door, then asked him to take the bit out and put it and the drill back in their respective boxes, then I'd put them away in the cabinet. And, they are still on the table. Big honey do ask, right?

I am feeling well enough to have a walk to the local church to see Simeon Walker perform tonight. I had never heard of him a week ago, I think I am about to become a fan.

Well, he has a new fan. I like his music, but every few songs he stopped and gave a 5 minute lecture on his motivations and the meaning of each piece. Most annoying as it completely broke up the mood, I was not the only one who didn't get on with it, the woman next to me was muttering.

Anyway, I bought his latest CD and we will enjoy listening to it at home - uninterupted.

It didn't help that the church is a really old stone built building, those pews are not made for comfort.

Oh, that’s definitely annoying. When there’s a performer like that, they really need to include a disclaimer on the advert, “Note - performer likes to hear himself talk more than you like to hear him play, adjust expectation accordingly.”

One of the bands I was in many years ago, the self-appointed frontman was like that - felt everyone needed a lecture on every song…why we were doing it, who wrote it, major themes…little bit of trivia.

At one performance, one of the other guys got so frustrated with the 20 minute presentation to a three minute song, he very obviously exaggerated removing his instrument, setting it down, plopping down on an amp, and taking out his phone: He shouted, “Settle in, it’s gonna be a minute!” from the side of the stage.

Didn’t make a damn bit of difference!

I put the drill with the bit in it, plus the extra bit Craig got out front and center where he couldn't miss them when he gave the cat her food after I fixed it this morning. He did put them away, sort of, but all in the drill case, didn't take the bit out of the drill and just tossed the extra bit he got out in the drill case, for whatever reason, and then he wonders why he can't ever find a drill bit he needs and why he needs to keep replacing them. Sigh.... He has 3 different types/shapes of cordless drills from when he needed them for work, plus a plug-in heavy duty drill.

I’ve got to run into town today because I thought I had Brita filters, but we have none.

Going to the beach, then a light dinner, and going to see my friends play at a different bar. It's a slightly different lineup as the fiddle player won't be there, the guitar player's wife will be singing, and there will be an additional guitar player i knew years ago when he was in a different band. He's very good though. I've never met the guitar player's wife but I'm sure she's good too.

Band was awesome as expected!

I’ve got to work, of course (and irritated by that, as my workday starts at 9AM and some assho…, er, over-exuberant coworker, scheduled me for an 8:30AM meeting 😠), and I also need to clean up a bit outside - it’s going to be quite warm out today, so I need to take advantage.

I was expecting a not-too-eventful day at work today, but it suddenly became quite eventful. One of my projects has been really successful, and I was invited to do a live on-air interview on the radio about it!

I was really nervous (when it’s live, you don’t get a do-over if you screw it up!), but it went really well!
