Plans for today (2024)

I’m off work for Veterans Day (not everyone gets it off, unfortunately), and many places offer free items to veterans, so that’s what I’m doing today.

I’ve had breakfast out, finishing a coffee, and am about to get 10% off my groceries at Kroger, then lunch somewhere, those are my plans.

Craig has a lab work appointment in a bit, then we'll get lunch, then back home. I have been working on my Venetian Carnivale mini project and just have finishing touches left to do, so I'll probably work on that a little more later, already added some flowering vines on 1 side this morning.

Don't think I've ever thanked you for service, so I'm doing it now. Thank you!

I’ll be collecting MrsT from the airport today. I meant to just drive in and work from the office for half a day (the airport’s maybe 15 minutes from my office), but on-call events conspired against that.

Anyway, I have the last half of the day off, and I’m planning on doing very little the first half.

Oh, yeah, I’ve also got to get on the ball with respect to Rescheduled Afternoon Tea*.

It’s set for Sunday, and I hate admitting it, but my heart’s just not in it right now. I’m usually excited and panicking by now, and except for looking forward to seeing our guests, I’m just rather blah about the whole thing.

Maybe I’ll just set out a jar of peanut butter and a loaf of bread and tell everyone to have at it.

*Afternoon tea was originally scheduled several weeks ago, but remnants of hurricane Helene knocked out our power and cancelled that for us.

It's only Wednesday. Maybe you'll snap out of it by the weekend.

I'm working this afternoon on a recall effectiveness check in Cleveland (about an hour away). Super easy, I just go in the store to double check that affected recalled products were removed from the shelves. Have the manager sign off on my visit and drive home.

I’m back at the airport - sure you’re not driving by in a bit?

Saw 8, I think, Big Boys in the Cincy area got eviction notices and will be closing. Don't you eat there sometimes TastyReuben ?

I used to love to eat at the 1 in Paducah when I was a kid. The Big Boy burger and strawberry pie. There was 1 in Mississippi close to where my dad lived before he passed, but nothing seemed as good as it was from what I remembered.

I think it’s up to 10 locations now…and I’ve eaten in half of them and know exactly where the other half are.

Not a new story, unfortunately. The chain was bought by a private equity group a few years ago, that group gambled, lost, and now they’re trying to slash expenses to stay open.
