Plans for today (2024)

Nutty day today - afternoon tea tomorrow, so I've got to do all the house cleaning and all the prep for that...and MrsT isn't feeling well, so she's being a bit needy today, which is making me quite frazzled.

I'm off!

Well if she's not well, do your guests even want to come over? I mean, is it something contagious or just a case of the blahs?

Nothing contagious.
I'm feeling rather blah myself today, which is why I moved some work from today to tomorrow. I might get some baking in tonight though. Just low energy. I think it's coming home to Ohio after being in the sunshine state of Florida for so long. NE Ohio is cloudy, cold, and gloomy this time of year. Did you know that Ohio is high on the list of states in the USA that gets the least amount of sunshine per year? I hope down where you are it's not so bad (since you are so close to Kentucky and Indiana).

Edited to add (from Annual Days of Sunshine in Ohio - Current Results)

I’d be in that Dayton range. It’s been rainy down here the last week or so.

I was reading about the weather in Shetland, because we’ve been watching that TV show, and would you believe yearly sun-visible days was listed in hours? 1100 hours.

MrsT said, “I’ll bet you’d like that!,” and my response was, “900 would be better!”

House half-cleaned (I’ll do the rest tomorrow), and all that’s left foodwise is assembling the sandwiches and baking off the scones. Everything else is done.

Bring on the tea!

Watered garden, made food for the dogs and got 10 litre soon to be beer in the fermenter.
Now having a cup of coffee, contemplating going to one of the closer towns for lunch, but mainly to get money out of the ATM.
I don't really feel like driving though

Our plans were to not do much.

We sort of did that, ish.

Had to drive into the city to (not) get the lawnmower replaced under warranty. They wanted to replace it, but didn't have any in stock anywhere that featured the self-propelled drive that ours had. Past tense. They would have swapped it out there and then if they had, but they don't. So we need to ring the lawnmower maker company tomorrow to discuss it with them. We're told the closest stock is 300km away which they should pay for the shipping according to the people we bought it from (fair enough for a warranty claim). It's just over 2 years old with a 4 year warranty. It's just the shop didn't have any self-propelled ones off the same make at all.

Then into the supermarket to pick up some bits they didn't have yesterday ( green chillies and my herbal tea bags) then home for lunch.

Sat down to watch a film but had to stop and round up all the chicks because a thunderstorm came through and neither set of chicks have encountered rain before and the flock tends to gather on the verandah in storms to stay dry which would mean the 6 week old chicks would not be able to get access to their cage, so we locked them in to keep them dry and safe. They're a long way from being waterproof yet! One of the cockerels is missing most feathers at the moment. How he doesn't get sunburnt is beyond me. And the 3 week old chicks just had to be brought in full stop.

Then we tried to watch the film again and kept losing the internet (satellite bb doesn't do walls of water between you and the satellite or the satellite and ground station particularly well...) and then we finally lost electricity! So we quit at that point.

But we finally had 30mm of rain. The last time it rained was 25th & 26th September, so it is much needed.

Of course that means that the grass will now grow and we don't have a working lawnmower....

And I bought my OH's Christmas present, so that's that sorted. He says he wants it wrapped and under the tree which will be a challenge.... now to find stocking fillers for him!

Afternoon tea day, I’ve got some last-minute cleaning to do and some food prep…and I’ve been up all frigging night with work.

Loathe to cancel, because we had to cancel the last one, and there won’t be another opportunity to do it this year, and everyone is looking forward to it, so I reckon I’m powering through it today.

I don't know what we'll be doing today, because guests are still here.
In the afternoon, however, I absolutely have to make some piccalilli, because I've bought all the ingredients.
At some stage I'll also have to go and buy dog food.

I found a whole pork shoulder in the deep freeze when I was looking for something else a couple of days ago. So, I pulled it out and had Craig put it in the refrigerator to defrost. Today, I have to nudge him to clean and prep the Big Green Egg so he can smoke it into pulled pork tomorrow.

I'm driving to Pennsylvania today for work. Just over the state line so it's only 1.25 hours away, but I have some other work on the way home. I might make some sourdough English muffins tonight.
