Plans for today (2024)

The plans have come unstuck doubly unstuck.

Today was meant to be "mostly cloudy". Yesterday and tomorrow are "mostly sunny". That means a UV up in the teens... so today was set aside for the central area of the garden that's got no shade. It desperately needs weeding and tiding and some full sun plants plants in it. Meant to be ... yeah. The cloud has vanished and it's clear blue skies and UV of 9 already...

And hubby has broken yet another lawnmower. Sigh. I've left him to try tinkering with it all morning. I'm now going to go and see if I can establish what's wrong and what the warranty was.

We're going to the beach. Big surprise huh? Well It's supposed to be 86 today so I'll be swimming a lot.

Tomorrow is a transition day as we move about 40 miles east from DH's cousin's house to a resort condo. So I'll have to pack up stuff in the morning. No beach tomorrow 😢

Are you passing through/near Appalachicola-St. George Island? I have family there!
No, we're West of Panama City. But I've been there many times. My sister who lives just south of Tallahassee was going over to St. George today (about 45 minutes from where she lives).

We're west of Ft. Walton now and moving over closer to Santa Rosa Beach tomorrow.

I was up at a friend’s place north of here for a girls’ weekend. Decided to take my sweet time coming home, and stretched the 2 hour drive home to 3-1/2 hours!

Stopped at one orchard to buy some apples, stopped at another farm stand for some cabbages, squash, and eggs. Stopped at the crossroads with the 2 burger joints across from each other and had a burger. Got stuck in traffic, failed to pay attention to directions and got on the highway eastbound when I should have gone westbound, got myself all turned around and finally back home again.

It’s been a while since I’ve kinda spent a day just toodling around on my own like that - thoroughly enjoyed it!

Plans for today actually went quite well.
Went to the local Phone company to lodge a complaint about the broadband (it's so slow, it's painful) and they took the details and said yes, that's not normal, blah, blah... so maybe there'll be some improvement. Went to the bank where they admitted that their internet platform was suffering certain "inconveniences"... managed to put pen to paper and started writing an introduction to my up and coming recipe book on chutneys, hot sauces and jams ( publication date: 2035).
Then my niece arrived to say hello, fine, wonderful, followed closely by her mum (my SIL)... that's when things got critical.Soon after, a friend arrived with two other friends, to buy some chutney, hot sauce, etc. Fantastic.
Then SIL asked me if I could do a dinner for her... things got severely critical because she expects a 3 course meal for $20 a head, and that's not happening. My niece came to my defence and said "MUM! If you want it for that price, you're gonna get 1 piece of chicken, a spoonful of rice and a few crisps!!"
:hyper:
SIL left and I downed 2 glasses of Cabernet to calm my nerves.

Today's plans include gardening, cooking (more soy, this time soy mince) house work, murdering more ants, and taking 2 chooks to the vets. Oh and carrying on rebuilding the laptop.
I actually came home with both chooks. That wasn't expected. One has a growth in her throat that we spotted at the weekend worming her. She's now in antibiotics. The vet was very pleased to see her because she nearly died 5-6 months ago and as 2.2kg then. She's now 4.1kg!

The other girl I was expecting the vet to say is end of life (the chook is 9 years old) but she didn't because she hasn't lost weight, she's happy to roam, not limping etc, but her foot is worse than I realised sadly and once her chest clears up, she will need surgery to remove a toe. The infection she picked up when she cut her foot is into the toe joint, not that my chook shows it. She's happy, not limping and carrying on as though she's fine. So I've got antibiotics for her as well along with an anti-inflammatory painkiller. She'll either stay on it for the remainder of her days if her chest doesn't improve, or if she's good enough for surgery, until then. But without surgery, the infected toe is going to be a problem.

Work, of course, and a grocery store trip into town (ALDI & Kroger), which means my weekly McD’s cheeseburger & medium fries for $3 (and that’s rounding up for the Ronnie McDonnie House), and I’m going to get some knives sharpened in town - the hardware store has this newfangled computer-controlled mystery machine that analyzes your knives (“So tell me, when did you first feel you weren’t quite as sharp as the other knives? I see…very interesting…”) and sharpens them up. I’ve been quite dissatisfied with my usual sharpening service, so let’s see if this one is any better.
