Plans for today (2024)

Nope, but if you can believe it, two people request I bring a banjo (which I did not do)!
Aww, shucks. You could have written a Thanksgiving song! I know you like to write Christmas songs, but no one ever writes Thanksgiving songs. I wonder why? Because it would be filled with annoying references to aunt Edna (cooking related) and Uncle Homer (getting too drunk at dinner related)? Hmmm. "Food" for thought!

Everyone is shouting out concert acts they’ve been too, and I sing 10 seconds of whatever song of theirs I can think of. I’ve gotten every one except ‘NSync, and I’m ok with that.

I am so thankful that we aren't having dinner until 7 PM and are going to nephew's house at 4. I got the mashed potatoes done and in the crockpot on warm and the pecan pie is in the oven. I had time to enjoy drinking my tea and coffee and I will even have time to clean up the kitchen before we leave later. Rolls will go in at 2:30 so they can cool a bit before we pack up and go at 3:30. I really wish I could just bake them over there so they would be the freshest of fresh but they have their oven going with other stuff, so I will be able to heat them briefly right before dinner and that will have to do.

Everything is done, other than Craig's sweet potatoes, which he's finishing up now, and the onion straws for the green bean casserole. I almost forgot the onions, so sliced them up and put them in ice water while rolls were baking.

We'll put the green bean casserole and the dressing in the oven to warm 30-40 minutes when we are ready to eat, and let the gravy finish simmering at the same time.

I'm waiting on eli at his school. His mum is in Melbourne for a wedding . We are ordering pizza later . His choice

Forgot ghee yesterday.
I make my own.
not bragging; just counting the pennies. A 230cc jar of ghee here costs between $12 - $15. US, not NZ dollars. I can buy a kilo and a bit of unsalted butter for that price, and make 4 230cc jars. All I have to do is watch it cook and skim off the white foam between beers.

He's not going to get better Russ, only worse over time.

Thanks for the thoughts. I hope you never have a stroke either. It's he// on the person if they are aware enough to know things are not right, and he// on the family coping with the differences.
yeah - I am having to be careful with my brother (who is younger than I am). He had a stroke at 47 about 18 months ago and there are issues with his memory. I have asked him how he wants me to deal with it and we have agreed that if I become aware of something I know he knew, I will fill him in and bring him up to date with it - it is stuff such as our sister having hearing problems - she actually lost her hearing when she was 2 years old and only has partial hearing now. She manages without a hearing aid, but I honestly don't know how long it will be before she has to get one. He sees her more often than I do but was unaware that she couldn't hear him at a birthday party (her's, I think it was) and thought she was ignoring him... He has no memory of all the issues we had keeping track of her and getting her attention in the supermarket when she wandered off, and us having to yell at customers to stop her and then explain she can't hear us, so can they point us out (whilst we run down the aisle after her... ) He's also struggling with strength in his dominant arm as well and can't ride his motorbikes anymore - they are too heavy for him. He was very lucky, though, any worse, and it would most likely have been fatal to him. he was on his own when it happened, and the emergency services failed to turn up (they give various reasons for this)...

All I can hope is that he remembers we've agreed that I will let him know when he can't remember these issues and fill him in as I can. It's been difficult helping from Australia but we talk weekly and he gets to ask me openly if he should remember things and if I can fill him in. Its really all I can do for him.

Safe travels! You should be over halfway there by now...
Thanks! Would you believe that not 10 minutes over the NC-Virginia border…it started to snow!

It snowed off and on all the way home, but mostly flurries, except between Chillicothe and Washington CH (Ohio) - it properly snowed!
