Plans for today (2024)

We have a lovely lux cinema chain called Everyman, they’re pricey though.
Typical Everyman, I think this ones in Cambridge but they are everywhere.

Yeah, we’re fine, thanks. First deer either of us have ever hit, and it must have been a rather small one, as the car rolled right over it without slowing down. Just felt like going over a rough patch of road.

I thought that it had to be a dog, but the state trooper looked at the damage and the fur and said, “No, that’s definitely from a deer.”

I’m glad you’re both ok.

Sorry to hear about the deer, and glad to hear it wasn’t a dog. My brother accidentally hit someone’s dog once (pro tip: maybe avoid walking your black dog off-leash at night). It was a residential area and my brother was going very slowly (he saw the person but not the dog) so the dog was ok, but he still felt absolutely terrible about it.

Yeah, when she hit it, she said, “Crap! I just hit a deer!” and I thought, “No, that’s definitely was a dog,” but I kept it to myself, because if there was any chance she thought it was a dog, she would have been in the middle of the road trying to track it down, get it to the vet, find the owner, etc.

Right now, she’s just pissed off over the money. Everything gets back to money with MrsT eventually, and she’s concerned that our insurance will find some way to screw us, which as we all know, is the business model insurance companies follow.

She’s already called them, and they said the most we’ll be out is $100 deductible, but that’s today. Wait until the bill comes in…

It’s a proper adrenaline bump isn’t it.
Sounds pretty cut and dry on the insurance but like you say you don’t know til it’s done.
Hope the new car turns up and it’s soon behind you.

Look at the bright side. If you'd been in your own vehicle things would be a heck of a lot more complicated and expensive.

MrsT is a savvy travel agent, does she know if the credit card you used to rent the car offers any sort of protection?

Yep, she’s been on the phone to the credit card folks (Amex), the rental company, and our insurance. She’s done as much as she can right now.

The devil’s always in the details. Both credit card and insurance said they’ll need a copy of the police report. We hit the critter less than 10 minutes from our hotel, so we called the police as soon as we got there, and the police said PA doesn’t take accident reports if no one was injured and the car is drivable…so there’s the first sticking point. We at least got the trooper’s name and the ID number of the call, so we can at least show we made the attempt.

Yeah you'd be saying anther night or 2 if it was your own car...I'm guessing it's not drivable?

It’s drivable. That’s how we got to the hotel.

Here’s the damage:

Hard to see in that side pic, but there’s a big scratch in the back door. I think she hit it, rolled over it with the front, and then it came up along the side.
